The Air Force Marathon has announced a new Armed Forces Series Challenge set to begin this year in 2024! The challenge will consist of the four following service-level armed forces races in addition to the annual Air Force Marathon: Coast Guard Marathon, Army Ten-Miler, Marine Corps Marathon, and Space Force T-Minus 10-Miler.

The History of the Annual Air Force Marathon

The US Air Force Marathon was established in 1997 as a celebration of the Air Force’s 50th anniversary. Since then, the event has been held each year on the third Saturday in September at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Ohio.

This event includes several races including a half marathon, full marathon, 10K, 5K, Tailwind Trot’s 1K Kids’ Run, and a three person marathon relay. Additionally, other events include a Health & Fitness Expo, a gourmet pasta dinner, a finish line festival, and an after party.

What to Expect From The Armed Forces Series Challenge

The Armed Forces Series Challenge will be held over the course of nine months–April to December. The series will begin with the Coast Guard Marathon 2024 being held on April 7th. The Air Force Marathon will follow on September 21st, with the Army Ten-Miler on October 6th, Marine Corps Marathon on October 27th, and the Space Force T-Minus 10-Miler on December 14th.

The operation can be completed all in one year, or participants can choose to complete the challenge over several years. The length of the operation is up to each individual to decide! Upon completion of the last mission, participants will be awarded the operation’s exclusive medal. Let's take a closer look at each one.

The Coast Guard Marathon

The Coast Guard Marathon will take place in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. This marathon event offers 1K and 5K races. Included in the weekend will be food, community, and Coast Guard fly-overs and demonstrations.

The Air Force Marathon

The Air Force Marathon 2024 will mark the 28th anniversary of the event. In addition to the races and weekend events, it is important for participants to note that this marathon also offers a Boston qualifying marathon course.

The Army Ten-Miler

The Army Ten-Miler will take place in Washington, DC. This race is known for being the third largest ten-miler road race in the world. Kids can also join to #RunArmyRunStrong with the offering of an Army youth race.

The Marine Corps Marathon

Those who would like to #RunWithTheMarines can do so in Arlington, Virginia. The Marine Corps Marathon route offers one of the largest and most iconic marathons in the United States and in the world. The Marine Corps Marathon offers a 10K, a 50K, a kids run, and weekend events.

Space Force T-Minus 10-Miler

The Space Force T-Minus 10-Miler will take place at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station located in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Each year, the marathon features a rocket that is portrayed on the marathon’s official shirts, finisher medals, commemorative patches, and more.

How to Register For the Armed Forces Series Challenge

Those interested in completing the Armed Forces Series Challenge can register on the Armed Forces Series Challenge participant portal. Each of the five missions can be registered for on their individual race entry platforms. Runners can also choose to only participate in any of the challenges individually, also by registering on the individual race entry platforms.
