Grimes Point

Grimes Point is a self-guided interpretive trail that features rock writing and petroglyphs. A guided educational program for those interested in learning more about Great Basin history is also available.

Hidden Cave Tours

It is believed that Hidden Cave, discovered in the mid-1920s by four schoolboys, was used a cache site 3,500 to 3,800 years ago. The Churchill County Museum offers guided tours of the cave. Tours begin at the museum, which shows a short video about the cave’s history before a caravan heads out to the actual cave site.

Named after an ancient lake, Lahontan Reservoir was originally built as part of an irrigation project to water nearby farmlands. With willows and cottonwoods scattered along 69 miles of shoreline, the park is one of most popular places in Nevada to boat, fish, water ski, horseback ride, camp and enjoy the outdoors year-round.

Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge 17 miles east of Fallon features 80,000 acres of diverse wetlands, which attract more than a quarter million waterfowl and 20,000 other water birds. Considered an “oasis in the desert,” the refuge provides visitors with a number of recreational opportunities, including birding, photography, hunting and hiking. Guided tours are available.
