NSA Orlando is located on the eastside of Orlando's city limits in Orange County, in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent to the University of Central Florida. Orlando is one of the world's fastest-growing cities. It is among Florida's major cities and has one of the nation's lowest unemployment rates. Orlando is a center for digital media and bio medicine. The City has the 9th busiest airport in the U.S. and is warm and sunny all year round. Orlando is the county seat for Orange County, Florida and is considered a relatively high cost of living area. Orlando is also the home of Walt Disney World, EPCOT, Universal Studios, and Sea World which are located just 35 miles Southwest of NSA Orlando.

Brief History

The installation initially opened in 1988 as a Warfare Center within the Naval Air Systems Command and in October of 2003 was officially re-designated as Naval Support Activity (NSA) Orlando. Today NSA Orlando is the home of several United States Armed Forces military training and simulation commands. NSA Orlando occupies 45 acres within the Central Florida Research Park.

Today, NSA Orlando provides support to all Department of Defense activities in Central Florida, most of which support military training and simulation missions. It has added the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation, the Army’s equivalent to NAWCTSD Orlando, as a major tenant unit.

Other major supported organizations adjacent to NSA Orlando include the U.S. Marine Corps’ Program Manager for Training Systems; the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s SFC Paul Ray Smith Simulation & Training Technology Center; the Orlando office of the U.S. Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation; the U.S. Navy Human Performance Center Orlando; the United States Joint Forces Command’s Joint Development Integration Facility and Joint Training Integration and Evaluation Center, and the Joint Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory.


Naval Support Activity Orlando's mission is to provide consistent, effective and efficient shore installation support services to all tenant DoD agencies enabling their mission accomplishment in a joint services environment. NSA Orlando provides the following capabilities:

  • Physical Security for all DoD components
  • Full Range of Public Works Support including construction, maintenance and BOS Services to all Central Florida activities
  • Disaster Preparedness & Hurricane Support to DoD components:

USCG: Liaison Office. FLETC
3 Naval Operational Support Centers: Orlando, Tampa, and St. Petersburg

Population Served

The combined government end-strength of the base and its tenants currently comprise approximately 120 Active-Duty military and 2,200 civil service serving on or near NSA Orlando. We also serve a community of approximately 350 military family members, 3,200 Joint Services Reserves, and 48,000 military retirees in the Central Florida area.

Each time you move you should request a sponsor prior to your arrival. If you have not been assigned a sponsor, go to the sponsorship website to request one. Your sponsor will provide you and your family with installation and community information. Your sponsor will assist with pre-arrival arrangements, answer questions, meet you personally upon arrival, and ensure your move to NSA Orlando goes smoothly and all your in processing needs are met.

Critical Installation Information

NSA Orlando is a small military installation, so many of the facilities that are located on larger bases are not available on site, but are supported by NAS Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, or Patrick Air Force Base. The closest Navy Exchange, Commissary, Barber Shop, and Package Store are located near the Orlando International Airport, approx. 20 miles southwest of the base. There is no inpatient medical facility located on board NSA Orlando, nor in the Orlando area at any other military facility. All medical and dental services are handled by local civilian care facilities through TRICARE PRIME Remote.

There are Navy Federal Credit Union's located in the Orlando area, but the nearest Navy Federal in Winter Park, FL, 11 miles west of NSA Orlando. Phone: 1-888-842-6328.

Another major concern in Central Florida is HURRICANE SEASON, from June to November. Call ahead if you are arriving at NSA Orlando and a hurricane is predicted to hit this area. Make it a practice to use sunscreen (especially children). Be alert for snakes and alligators when you walk in wooded or marshy areas.
