A problem inherent in many PCS moves is the possibility of damage to household goods and personal possessions during shipment. Claim forms and assistance in filing claims of any type are available from the USARAK Claims Division. Newcomers are urged to contact the claims office shortly after their property has arrived if damage or loss has occurred.
Army regulations require claimants to visit a claims office within 70 days of the delivery of household goods and file the DD Form 1840-R, also known as the "pink sheets," which are received at the time of delivery. Failure to file the DD Form 1840-R within 70 days of household goods delivery may result in some or all of any claim not being paid.
The Claims Office is on the third floor of Building 600; phone number 907-384-0330. Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. The office is open from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Attorneys are available to provide advice and assistance concerning personal legal problems to service members and retirees, and their dependents. The office provides advice and services to include notarization of documents, powers of attorney, wills, adoptions, divorces and dissolutions of marriage, child support, landlord/tenant and real estate matters, vehicle purchases, debt problems and other legal issues.
Guidance is provided on a myriad of other legal issues such as assistance on replies to financial liability investigations, NCOER/OER appeals and obtaining stays of court proceedings under the Service Members' Civil Relief Act. Those seeking assistance should bring all documents pertaining to their problems to their appointment.
The Legal Assistance Office is in Building 600; phone number 907-384-0371. Assistance is provided on a by-appointment-only basis weekdays 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 to 11 a.m. Power of attorney and notarization services are provided during all hours of operation and do not require an appointment
