U.S. Coast Guard Sector Anchorage has the largest geographical Area of Responsibility in the nation, which includes approximately 34,000 miles of coastline. This AOR encompasses 460 regulated waterfront facilities, 550 inspected commercial vessels, 4,000 fishing vessels, an average of 400 pollution incidents annually and an average of 200 search-and-rescue cases every year.
The mission of Coast Guard Sector Anchorage is to ensure the safety, security and stewardship of Western Alaska and the Arctic.
USCG Sector Anchorage completed the final construction of, and relocation to, a purpose-designed, $14 million addition to the Alaska National Guard Armory on JBER in spring 2014. By forging partnerships with multiple state agencies, Sector Anchorage overcame the unprecedented challenge of building a state-of-the-art facility. As a result of these efforts, Sector Anchorage successfully relocated to its current 27,000-square-foot facility, which has enhanced operational and administrative capabilities. This includes a command center, medical facility and space for Coast Guard Investigative Services, NOAA, partners and a chaplain.
