It is given through a small (scented) breathing mask that is placed over the child’s nose, where it is inhaled through normal breathing. The gas does not put the child to sleep, leaving your child fully conscious and capable to move. Once the treatment is complete, symptoms of the procedure wear off quickly. We sometimes recommend nitrous oxide to patients with highly sensitive gag reflexes.Intravenous Sedation (IV Sedation)IV Sedation is a behavioral management technique that utilizes medications to induce a child into a state of deep relaxation during dental treatment. Children who are unable to cooperate during dental procedures, whether due to anxiety, compromised health, or special needs, are candidates for IV sedation. Dr. Sanjuan has worked closely with Dr. Hector Vila, Jr. from Pediatric Dental Anesthesiology Associates for many years.
