WELCOME TO THE NEW MEDICAL PAVILION AT HOWARD COUNTYA quality medical center serving Howard County residents in Columbia, Ellicott City, Anne Arundel County, and surrounding Maryland regions.- A COMMUNITY SPECIALTY PRACTICE OF JOHNS HOPKINS MEDICINE -What is now the Medical Pavilion at Howard County (MPHC) started out as a farmer’s ten acres of land that was purchased by the Rouse Company, founders of Columbia.  Over time, Howard County General Hospital (HCGH) was growing along with the community, and eventually purchased the property from Rouse.  Though this wooded parcel was originally envisioned as expansion space for HCGH's medical center, it caught the attention of a group of local physicians with a vision for the future.  That vision was for a modern, state-of-the-art, environmentally responsible hospital in which their medical practices – Howard County’s largest and most progressive subspecialty medical groups – could grow and expand along with the Columbia/Howard County community.  Beginning with that first vision in late 2003, Drs. Michael G. Macon (surgery) and Michael E. Silverman (cardiology) led the medical center office building project, along with an executive committee that included Dr. Marc B. Applestein (urology), Dr. Edward J. (Ted) Lee (hematology/ oncology), and Linda Chatterton, MBA, a former hospital VP and Practice Administrator. Over the next six years, the initial group of 63 physicians partnered with Howard County General Hospital to develop the MPHC medical center project.  We envision that this partnership will continue to develop comprehensive outpatient medical services in Howard County.  With MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate as developers and Cogdell Spencer Erdman (previously known as Marshall Erdman & Associates), a nationally recognized designer of state-of-the-art medical facilities, as the design-build firm, what was just a “vision” among a small group of determined physicians in 2003 became a reality in the summer of 2009. All of us who work in the Medical Pavilion at Howard County, no matter which medical practice or organization we work for, take great pride in what we have achieved.  Not only do we have stellar medical facilities in which, and with which, to care for our patients, but we have crafted a medical center that is good to our environment and, in so doing, to ourselves as well.Home | Green Initiatives | Supporters | DirectoryHealth Education | Directions
