PICATINNY ARSENAL

Picatinny Arsenal is the Joint Center of Excellence for Guns and Ammunition, providing products and services to all branches of the U.S. military. Nestled in the northern New Jersey Highlands, the nearly 6,500-acre installation is about 35 miles west of New York City. The arsenal’s team of more than 6,000 personnel includes soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, U.S. federal employees and contractor personnel who lead in the research, development, acquisition and life cycle management of advanced conventional weapon systems and ammunition. Picatinny’s portfolio comprises nearly 90 percent of the Army’s lethality and all conventional ammunition for joint war fighters. Examples of arsenal products include improvised explosive device defeat technologies, precision-guided munitions, mortars, fire control systems, small-arms weapon systems, Howitzers, warheads, fuzes, gunner protection armor, insensitive munitions, and small, medium and large caliber conventional ammunition.

MAJOR UNITS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center

ARDEC is the Army’s “Center of Lethality,” a designation reflecting its important role as the provider of more than 90 percent of the Army’s lethal armaments and munitions to our war fighters.

Program Executive Office for Ammunition

The Program Executive Office for Ammunition is the life cycle manager for the conventional ammunition, leap-ahead munitions and counter-IED products that increase the combat firepower of our war fighters.

Joint Munitions and Lethality Lifecycle Management Command

The Joint Munitions and Lethality Lifecycle Management Command develops, acquires, fields and sustains value-added ammunition for the joint war fighter through the integration of effective and timely acquisition, logistics and cutting-edge technologies.

Project Manager Soldier Weapons

Project Manager Soldier Weapons supports soldiers through the development, production, fielding and sustainment of current and future weapons systems, as well as associated target acquisition and fire control products.

Program Executive Officer for Ground Combat Systems

The Program Executive Officer for Ground Combat Systems manages the development, acquisition, testing, systems integration, product improvement and fielding of ground combat support weapons systems used by the Army and other U.S. military services.

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division, Picatinny Detachment, provides research, development, evaluation and in-service support of energetic systems for the Navy’s energetic enterprise.
