Contact your sponsor with your estimated arrival time and flight information, if applicable, before your arrival at Laughlin Air Force Base.
Sponsorship is vital to the relocation process. Don’t PCS without talking to your sponsor before departing for Laughlin Air Force Base. Your sponsor will answer any questions about the base and the local area, make lodging/dorm arrangements and meet you upon arrival. Your sponsor will be there to help you and your family until you are settled into your new community.

Cellphone use by the driver of a motor vehicle is prohibited on all Department of Defense installations unless the cellphone is used with a hands-free device.
Bus service from San Antonio
Bus service is available from San Antonio (downtown bus station) to the Del Rio bus terminal. Travel time is about three and a half hours. Call Greyhound at 210-270-5868 or Kerrville Bus Lines at 830-775-7515 for schedules and costs, or coordinate travel arrangements with your sponsor.
Driving from Central Texas
For the route through central Texas, take U.S. Highway 277 southwest from San Angelo, Texas, to Del Rio, then U.S. Highway 90 east to the base. Laughlin is eight miles east of Del Rio. The front gate on U.S. 90 is open 24/7.
Driving from the west
The best route from the west is Interstate 10 east through El Paso, Texas, to Van Horn, then drop southeast on U.S. Highway 90 from Van Horn to Laughlin AFB. The front gate on U.S. 90 is open 24/7.
From San Antonio International Airport
Laughlin Air Force Base is 156 miles west of San Antonio on U.S. Highway 90. From the airport, take U.S. Highway 90 West to reach Laughlin AFB in about two and a half hours. The front gate on U.S. 90 is open 24/7.

When you arrive at the base, you must in-process with Military Personnel Element customer service between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, bringing all personnel, medical and financial records with you. The Blue Service uniform is worn during in-processing, and you will need enough uniforms for your six days with the detachment.
If you arrive during nonduty hours, on a weekend or holiday and need assistance, go to the 24-hour arrival point in Laughlin Manor, Bldg. 454, Fourth and Arnold streets, or call 830-298-5741. When you in-process with the Military Personnel Element, you will be given an appointment to attend a Newcomers Orientation Event.
SUPT/APT students (Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training or Awaiting Pilot Training students), as well as Reserve, Guard and foreign exchange student pilots must take their in-processing documents to the Transition Office before in-processing at the Military Personnel Element. This is to ensure student in-processing has been completed before Laughlin in-processing. The Transition Office is in Bldg. 320, Room A133. Call 830-298-5211 for more information.
Newcomers Orientation Event
Your one-stop in-processing will be done at the Newcomers Orientation Event from 7:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 468. At orientation, you will be greeted by base leadership, meet local community representatives and receive all your mandatory in-processing briefings, including medical. The event is mandatory for military members, and spouses and new civilian employees are also encouraged to attend.

Laughlin Manor provides safe, comfortable and clean accommodations for personnel traveling on official government orders who are being assigned to Laughlin Air Force Base. All lodging facilities are nonsmoking.
Reservations for the Temporary Lodging Facility can be made any time for personnel traveling on official government orders. You can apply for temporary lodging up to 60 days in advance. Temporary lodging can accommodate a family of five. Inbound and outbound permanent change of station (PCS) personnel have priority and may stay up to 30 days. These units can also be used by active duty on leave, retirees or TDY personnel on a space-available basis.
The rooms have a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator and microwave; washer/dryer; and one queen-size bed, two twin beds and two sleeper sofas. The unit can sleep up to eight people.
Laughlin has four pet-friendly temporary lodging accommodations, but if they are occupied you will need to make arrangements for your pets in a boarding facility. The installation does not have on-base boarding for pets. Some motels in the local community may accept pets, but their policies change and you will need to contact them for current policies.
