Keesler Air Force Base is the Electronics Training Center of Excellence for the United States Air Force.


A part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Harrison County is in South Mississippi between Hancock and Jackson counties. It covers 976 square miles, five municipalities and has the largest population of the South Mississippi counties — as of 2014, an estimated 199,058 people. The cities of Harrison County include Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian and D’Iberville. Gulfport and Biloxi are the county’s seats.

Getting To & Around

Most people traveling throughout Harrison County and the Gulf Coast choose to drive, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the coastline and beaches along with a well-maintained highway system. Harrison County is easily connected to other parts of Mississippi and the rest of the U.S. via several interstate highways that traverse the area.

Housing & Real Estate

A low cost of living and abundant natural amenities in Harrison County contribute to a high quality of life not often found in larger metropolitan areas. In 2014, an estimated 199,058 people called Harrison County home, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Gulfport and Biloxi are the county’s seats.

Employment & Economy

South Mississippi is home to multibillion-dollar bases — such as Keesler Air Force Base and Naval Construction Battalion Center in Harrison County — that provide thousands of jobs and award millions in contracts to local businesses, according to the Harrison County Development Commission. The commission estimates the economic impact of the bases in the county is approximately $1 billion.

Health Care

There are many health care services in Harrison County for military, civilians and veterans, though implementation of the Affordable Care Act may change established insurance options. Open enrollment for health care coverage under the national Affordable Care Act runs from Nov. 1, 2015, to Jan. 31, 2016, for coverage starting in 2016. For more information, visit

"The Alele Museum and Public Library hold historical items for the Marshall Islands and repairing the roof will help ensure these cultural icons are not ruined by water intrusion from a damaged roof," said Lt. j.g. The Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1 S6, computer and information management, department conducted a 2,359 mile cross country cycling challenge on stationary bikes from March 25, 2015, to April 22, 2015, in Gulfport, Mississippi, during preparation for the current deployment.
