In driving terms, it’s approximately 90 miles east of New Orleans via Interstate 10; 60 miles west of Mobile, Alabama, via I-10; 575 miles east of Dallas via I-20 and I-49; and 900 miles south of Chicago via I-55.

It covers 976 square miles, five municipalities and has the largest population of the South Mississippi counties — as of 2013, an estimated 196,500 people. The cities of Harrison County include Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian and D’Iberville. Gulfport and Biloxi are the county’s seats.
