Housing

Updated On: 7/12/2011 2:28:54 PM
Whiteman currently provides more than 800 family housing units and is projected to provide 890 by the end of 2011. On-base quarters include stoves, refrigerators and connections for washers and dryers. Many recent improvements include siding, thermal windows, steel exterior doors, interior doors and baseboards, exterior/interior light fixtures, ceiling fans, laundry tubs, electrical rewiring, new bathrooms, new roofs, new basement windows, sump pumps and dish washers.

Each military member is to report to the housing office staff prior to entering into an off-base housing lease agreement. If arriving after duty hours, report on the first duty day after arrival.

Visit your current housing office to submit an advance housing application as soon as you receive your orders. Military members with dependents are authorized to submit an advance application for military housing any time after receiving PCS or active duty orders for Whiteman AFB. The application must be submitted on DD Form 1746.

Call the Whiteman AFB Housing Office at (660) 687-4418 prior to arrival for more details.

HOUSING MANAGEMENT/REFERRAL OFFICE
Whiteman has three housing communities. Ridgeview was built in 2000 and is primarily for junior non-commissioned Airmen. The units have two, three and four bedrooms. Another community, Bear Lake, is also for junior enlisted and was completed in 2008. On the south side of the base, in the lakeside area, housing units are being torn down in stages to make room for new facilities for senior NCOs and officers. Please be sure to check with the housing office early during in-processing. The staff knows of current on-base housing availability. They also are knowledgeable about off-base lease agreements. For information about housing on any base, go to the Air Force portal on a Department of Defense computer, click on life matters and look for the desired community. Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

OFF BASE
The Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN.com) maintains a listing of houses available for rent, sale or lease without restriction to race, color, religion, sex or national origin. They will also provide maps of the local area, church and school directories, shopping and recreational information along with a thorough briefing on the Missouri state laws pertaining to landlord and tenant agreements. The staff will assist in resolving tenant and landlord complaints as well as housing discrimination complaints. Those planning to live off base should have the housing office staff review the proposed lease. Legal office review is also available prior to signing.

HOUSING ALLOWANCES
Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is the only allowance available to personnel residing off base. To date, all local off-base facilities are in compliance with the fair housing law. All landlords listed with the Automated Housing Referrel Network have agreed to provide non-discriminatory housing to all military and DoD members.

PURCHASE AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE
There are ample homes available in the local areas for purchase, most within a 20-mile radius. Individuals interested in purchasing or renting in the local community should visit the housing office staff where a list of potential sales and rentals is available.  read more...
