WHILE PLANES, TRAINS AND BUSES are viable options for your journey to Ventura County, most folks choose the family car for their move. Just about an hour's drive from Los Angeles and Hollywood, Ventura County's location along the scenic southern-most part of California's Central Coast between Malibu and Santa Barbara provides breathtaking scenery. Depending upon where you start your journey and what time of year you are moving, the Internet is the handy tool to check road conditions affected by weather and construction during your move by car.An atlas and current state road maps will be needed items for your journey to your new home.

AIRPORTS
The closest airports to the Ventura County area are Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is about one and a half hours south of Ventura County areas, or the Oxnard Airport, which is less than a 30-minute drive north. LAX has only one shuttle bus service (Roadrunner Shuttle) to the Ventura County area. The LAX shuttle cost is about $50.

Oxnard Airport does not offer shuttle service toVentura County locales. Because taxi services can be costly, it is best to make prior arrangements before arriving by air.

Camarillo Airport, formerly a U.S. Air Force Base, is a general aviation airport located south of the City of Camarillo. It is the current base of operations of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) Aviation Unit and the home of the VCSD'sTraining Facility and Academy, part of the Ventura County Criminal Justice Training Center. The Camarillo Airport also serves as the base of operations for the Ventura County Fire Department and facilitates the Oxnard College Regional Fire Academy and the Ventura County Reserve Officers Training Center. Santa Paula Airport, located near Santa Paula, is a privately owned airport.However, it is open to the public for general aviation.

TRAIN AND BUS
The main AMTRAK Train Station is located in downtown Oxnard at the Oxnard Transportation Center (201 E. Fourth St., Oxnard, CA 93030). This center also includes the Metrolink Oxnard train station for Metrolink's Ventura County Line. A Greyhound Bus Station is also located at the AMTRAK station. AMTRAK stations are also located in Camarillo,Moorpark, Simi Valley and Ventura. There are no shuttle services from the AMTRAK stations to other Ventura County destinations and taxis are expensive. Be aware that the train station is not an area to walk around in alone at night. Therefore, be sure to make prior transportation arrangements when arriving at night to the Ventura County area by AMTRAK train or Greyhound bus.
