Location
Scott is located in southwestern Illinois
and is surrounded by the cities of Belleville, Shiloh, O’Fallon and Mascoutah. The Shiloh Gate, our primary vehicle entrance point, is 1.5 miles southeast of Interstate 64 (Exit 19A) at Route 158.
Weather
Located in the Central Time Zone, Scott’s weather includes four definite seasons. Temperatures range from the low 90s in the summer to winter nights when temperatures drop into the mid-teens. The wettest months, May and June, average four inches of rainfall each. The average annual precipitation is 38 inches.
Population
The Scott community has a workforce of more than 13,000 personnel — including active duty, civilians, Air National Guard and Reserves. If you include the more than 9,700 family members and the total number of military retirees and their families, Scott serves nearly 40,000 people.
Base Size
Scott is spread out over 2,900 acres with 59 miles of roadways.
The Mission
Scott Air Force Base is a global mobility and transportation hub for the Department of Defense. The base is home to several command and control elements that represent logistics for the United States military in air, over land and across the sea in a true joint environment that brings together the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard members — active duty, Guard and Reserve! Team Scott partners are collectively responsible not only for managing the global mobility missions around the world, but also aeromedical evacuation, senior leader airlift and aerial refueling capabilities for the Air Force and DoD. Scott AFB is home to some of the nation’s most important organizations — including U.S. Transportation Command, Air Mobility Command, the 618th Air and Space Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center), and Air Force Network Integration Center, which are just a few of the 30 tenant units stationed here. It’s also one of four bases in the Air Force to host both a Reserve unit, the 932nd Airlift Wing, and an Air National Guard unit, the 126th Air Refueling Wing.
