NAVY-MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY
The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society was founded to provide financial assistance for short-term emergencies. Generally, the Society provides assistance in the areas of emergency travel, disaster assistance, funeral expenses, food, rent/mortgage, utilities, medical/dental, or essential vehicle and home repairs. The Society also offers a Budget for Baby class, has visiting nurses for in-home assistance, and educational scholarships and loans. Founded in 1904, the Society is a non-profit, volunteer-run service organization. Assistance is available to active and retired service members and their eligible family members. Their goal is to help all our Navy and Marine Corps members be financially self-sufficient and find solutions to emergency needs. If you need help or wish to volunteer your time for a great cause, go to their Oceana office in Building 531. It is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Telephone is 433-3383. LEGAL ASSISTANCE
Military members, retirees and their families frequently need advice and assistance concerning personal legal problems. Licensed attorneys at the Navy Legal Service Office Mid-Atlantic, Branch Office Oceana, provide legal advice and assistance. This service provides you free access to attorneys who can discuss your personal legal problems with you in complete confidence. Discussions with a Legal Assistance Officer may not be disclosed to anyone without your permission. Attorneys provide advice concerning, but not limited to, domestic relations, estate planning, landlord/tenant, consumer law and contracts and other legal matters. Additionally, they also draft powers of attorney, wills and other legal documents to meet the client's specific needs. Legal advice is not given over the phone. The Legal Assistance Office is located at NAS Oceana in Building 320, and serves both NAS Oceana and Dam Neck Annex.
