Information and registration forms are available at both centers. The Nellis Child Development Centers offer a variety of services for children ages 6 weeks through 6 years, including center-based, full-day and hourly child care and part-day enrichment (preschool) programs. The centers are designed to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of children and give them protection and security when they are away from their parents. The wide variety of programs enhances each child's development. Full-day rates are set each year and are assessed according to total family income.

Family Child Care Office

Pick up information and registration forms at the Family Child Care Office for child care in licensed Family Child Care Homes. Individual providers furnish services similar to Child Development Centers during regular weekdays, including full-time and hourly care. Family Child Care is also available evenings, weekends, Family Days and CDC Training Days. Many providers offer subsidized services, which equals the same fee for full-day care for the same services at the Child Development Centers. Free Extended Child Care is also available for child care beyond regular duty hours, returning from deployment, PCSing or volunteering for certain activities on the base.

The second largest exchange and shopping mall in the western region features a full line of such quality general and specialty merchandise as a barbershop, beauty salon, car rental, optical shop, florist, watch repair, optometry and food court.

On-Base
Check-Cashing Policy
to $300 at the Base Exchange Armed Forces Bank branch and at the Consolidated Club (see below). The Nevada Federal Credit Union and Armed Forces Bank on-base services include checking and savings accounts. Out-of-state checks for Nellis military members require military ID. Personal checks for temporary duty require military ID and TDY orders.

Home and Garden Center

Specialized merchandise includes a state-of-the-art shoppette/Class Six operation supporting the active duty and retiree population.

Commissary

The 59,600-square-feet of shopping area encompasses 22 checkout stands and four self-checkouts and more than 18,500 items and services including a deli and bakery, freshly-made chickens, sandwiches and sushi.

Three eateries strive for quality meals in a pleasant environment for all enlisted patrons. On base are The Mountain View Inn and the Crosswinds Inn, with The RED HORSE Inn serving Area II. The Installation Food Service Advisory Council receives and implements suggestions from patrons. For personnel on the run, the Touch & Go Flight Kitchen on Tyndall Boulevard serves both fast food and boxed meals.

Whether banquets, meetings or intimate dinners, the Club provides quality food, beverage and service. The 36,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art multi-purpose room, for example, boasts theater-style seating for 700, banquet-style for 500 or 400 for roundtable-style and VIP head-table arrangements. A VIP room also serves up to 18 people for a sit-down dinner.

The Club is open weekdays for special functions and weekends at an additional fee.

Desert Oasis Club (formerly the Enlisted Club)

DJs play the latest hits from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday nights. This club also features a 250-seat ballroom and smaller rooms for meetings. After renovations, the Sports Bar will be open seven days a week.

Library

The library offers complete, modern library services and resources for the community to support education, career development and profitable use of leisure time. Amenities include new fiction and non-fiction books, periodicals, audio books in CD and cassette formats, as well as a large collection of educational and popular videos and DVDs. CLEP, testing materials and career-change information are updated frequently.

Patrons may access the Internet in the computer lab, with printers in color or black and white. Other services include Fax, copier, a microfiche reader/printer, individual study rooms and a paperback book exchange. The library also connects to an online card catalog with the Las Vegas Clark County Library District and has several state-of-the-art computer database research systems. A children's summer reading program runs June through July, preschool story times, computer classes and tours throughout the year.

Movie Theater

Youth Programs

Office hours: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday Facility hours: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday Youth Programs offer a variety of classes, social activities, child care and sporting events for six- to 18-year olds. The facility also offers an Air Force-wide child care program before and after school and non-school days as well as full days during the summer.

Thrift Shop

first and third Saturdays of the month Volunteers and the Nellis Officers' Spouses Club welcome active duty and retired military members and their dependants to consign and/or purchase quality items at affordable prices. Items include furniture, clothing, household goods, home entertainment equipment and jewelry. Profits are donated to various charitable organizations and used to award scholarships for military family members.

Auto Skills Center

The shop has five lifts inside and one outside RV lift and is equipped for welding, alignments, wheel balancing, brake service, engine computer diagnostic, valve grinding, state emission control testing and air conditioning service. Two certified mechanics offer most repair work at reasonable rates, and the store features automotive products. The center also offers monthly informational classes and videotapes on auto repairs.

Car Care Center

The Center provides a well-stocked automotive store with an excellent assortment of parts. Most non-stocked parts can be obtained the same day. It sells brand name tires and batteries. There is also a large assortment of automotive items that may be special ordered. The Car Care Center also services automobiles. Included are filter and fluid changes as well as service on tires and electrical and cooling systems.

Hobby Shop Self-Service Car Wash

Boulevard and Carswell Avenue
The 99th Force Support Squadron oversees an automatic, coin-operated, self-service car wash, including three high-pressure wash bays and an oversize bay for recreational vehicles. The cost is $1.50 in quarters for four minutes of wash time. Six coin-operated vacuums are also available, as are vending machines for towels and cleaning wipes.

Linen Exchange

The Linen Exchange accepts authorized items to be washed or dry cleaned at government expense - government-issued linens, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels and mattress covers. Organizational-issue items such as field jackets, liners, parkas, cooks' white uniforms will also be cleaned at no charge.

Vet Clinic

The Veterinary Clinic medical services include vaccines, ear cleaning, microchiping, deworming, heartworm tests and prevention, minor sick calls, FCC certification, health certificates and more. Such surgical procedures as spaying/neutering or dentals are unavailable.
