Major Units, Directoriates and Staff

171ST INFANTRY BRIGADE
171st Infantry Brigade is the largest permanent party command on Fort Jackson. The brigade includes Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Soldiers as well as Forces Command (FORSCOM) Soldiers. The brigade provides administrative command and control to the Soldiers assigned to Fort Jackson's Headquarters and special staff sections.

The brigade assists drill sergeants and company commanders from the basic combat training battalions in conducting specialized and tactical instruc-tion, including first aid, rifle marksmanship and communications training as well as combat indoctrination training.

171st Infantry Brigade Consists of 187th Ordnance Battalion; 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment Battalion; 120th Adjutant General Battalion (Re-ception); and Task Force Marshall.

HHC 171st Infantry Brigade
The HHC provides unit administration and logistical support for the Brigade Staff Sections and provides the operating personnel to support the functional requirements for the HQ Staff and Commander. The HHC Commander is responsible for discipline, security, training and administration of personnel assigned to the HHC. The Commander is also responsible for unit level supply activities and manages support facilities in the Brigade area.

187th Ordnance Battalion
"Geared to Maintain"

The 187th Ordnance Battalion was first constituted May 1, 1936, in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Battalion, 54th Quartermaster Regiment. The unit was redesignated on Oct. 7, 1942, as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 187th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Battalion, but was inactivated in 1945.

As a result of the U.S. Army Regimental System, the headquarters was transferred in 1987 to TRADOC. Originally assigned to the 4th Training Brigade at the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Jackson, it was activated and organized for its present training mission with 171st Infantry Brigade of producing specialists in light and heavy wheeled vehicle repair and additional skills in vehicle recovery.

The 187th Ordnance Battalion is the only unit in TRADOC which trains and produces apprentice level Light Wheel Vehicle and Heavy Wheel Vehicle mechanics for the operational Army.

The 187th Ordnance Battalion in Fort Jackson produce apprentice level Light Wheel Vehicle mechanics for the operational Army. Once Soldiers graduate from the 91B AIT course, they are able to perform unit-level maintenance in the areas of troubleshooting, fuel systems, electrical systems, power trains, chassis/suspension and steering systems, brake systems and Preventive Maintenance Checks and Service.

4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment (4-10 IN)
Previously the "Victory Support Battalion", the unit was reflagged to 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment in the spring of 2009. Originally estab-lished as Task Force Victory on Jan. 1, 1998, and activated as it currently stands on July 29, 2005. 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry is organized of units assigned/attached to the 171st Infantry Brigade. Its mission includes the Headquarters, Fort Jackson Army Training Center and its mission-related staff sections that support Fort Jackson's Initial Entry Training Mission. The 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry consists of Headquarters and Headquarters Company 4-10 IN; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Fort Jackson United States Army Training Center; Bravo Company 4-10 IN; 282nd Army Band; United States Army Student Detachment, and the 17th Military Police Detachment. 4th Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment is the largest and most diverse unit on Fort Jackson, serving multiple missions on Fort Jackson and all over the world.

Headquarters and Headquarters Company,
Army Training Center and Fort Jackson
Headquarters and Headquarters Company provides post training and administrative support by providing personnel to the Installation's Command Group; Staff Judge Advocate; Inspector General, G3; and other staff sections on the installation.

Headquarters and Headquarter Company/4-10 IN
HHC/4-10 IN provides administrative and training support for the 4-10 IN Staff, Special Staff and DCG-IMT Directorates at Fort Jackson including: Training Support & Schools Directorate (TSSD), Analysis & Evaluation Directorate (A&ED), Army Physical Fitness School (APFS), Master Resiliency Training (MRT), Victory University (VU) and Drill Sergeant School (DSS).

B Company/4-10 IN
"Bravo" Company provides direct support to the Fort Jackson mission of training Soldiers. This company provides personnel to serve as range cadre on all installation Basic Rifle Marksmanship Ranges Combat Indoctrination Ranges, and instructors for the General Subjects Committee. Every Soldier trained on Fort Jackson is instructed and supported by the members of Bravo Company as they work in conjunction with Basic and Advanced Individual Training Battalions to ensure the Army receives the best trained Warriors in the world.

282nd Army Band
Attached to 4-10 IN, the 282nd U.S. Army Band is one of Fort Jackson's most colorful units. The 282nd Band provides countless hours of entertainment for military and civilian audiences throughout the area. Consisting of some 40 Soldier-musicians, the band can provide a marching, stage or concert band or a small combo. Its major function is to provide musical support for all military ceremonies, such as Basic Combat Training unit graduations, retirement reviews, command retreats and other functions that are part of the installation routine. The band also participates in festivals and other civilian functions throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia in support of community relations and Army recruiting programs.

United States Army Student Detachment
Attached to 4-10 IN, the United States Army Student Detachment (USASD) provides command and control to more than 2,100 senior Army officers attending civilian colleges and universities worldwide, including the Air and Naval War Colleges and the Command and Staff Colleges. They also support those officers and enlisted personnel serving in the Training with Industry program. USASD links the student, the military personnel center and the Army Finance community.

17th Military Police Detachment
Attached to 4-10 IN, the 17th Military Police Detachment provides Law Enforcement and support contingency operations in support of the Directorate of Emergency Services. On order, the detachment deploys modular Military Police teams in support of contingency operations around the world.

120th Adjutant
General Battalion (Reception)
"We Set The Example!"
The 120th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) is the largest reception battalion in the Army. It receives, processes, motivates and begins the Civilian-to-Warrior process for more than 45,000 Soldiers, from all components, arriving each year for Initial Entry Training (IET) at the US Army Training Center & Fort Jackson (USATC&FJ). The battalion also processes Prior Service Soldiers and prepares them for onward movement to a training company or other unit of assignment.

The 120th Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) consists of six distinct companies: a Headquarters Company that supports the battalion staff as well as running the Airborne Orientation Course for basic training graduates requiring Airborne schooling prior to AIT, three IET processing companies (Alpha, Bravo and Charlie Companies), Company D, a multiple mission set company with the Trainee Discharge Detachment (TDD), the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) mission, English as a Second Language (ESL) training course mission and the Fitness Training Company (FTC), which supports basic training in both the Fitness Training Unit (FTU) and the Physical Training and Rehabilitation Program (PTRP).

Task Force Marshall
Task Force Marshall (TFM) is a battalion-sized training force made up of mobilized U.S. Army Reserve units from the 108th Division (Institutional Training), augmented by civilian contractors, to prepare Sailors through Navy Individual Augmentee Combat Training (NIACT) for deployment to various theatres of operation and provide refresher training to Army Retiree Recalls and Inactive Ready Reserve Soldiers.

In addition to a battalion staff, Task Force Marshall has three companies that train Navy Sailors for combat and one company that trains Army Soldiers in preparation to augment deploying units in support of ARFORGEN. Task Force Marshall is based at the far southeastern end of Fort Jackson in the Camp McCrady Training Center.

HEADQUARTERS, U.S. ARMY GARRISON INSTALLATION MANAGEMENT COMMAND
Fort Jackson's installation support functions are provided by the United States Army Garrison and like all Army installations operate under the direction of the Installation Management Command. The Garrison commander reports to the director, Southeast Region, Installation Management Command and the commanding general in his role as installation commander. The installation has a wide range of support directorates and activities with the mission of supporting the community's objectives. Each directorate or activity plays a key part in conducting the business of Fort Jackson.

Directorate of Logistics
The Directorate of Logistics (DOL) serves as principal adviser to the Fort Jackson Garrison Commander and staff on all matters pertaining to logistical support. The DOL directs and provides operational control of supply, maintenance and transportation support which includes contingency plans, laundry, food service, consolidated installation property book, supplies and services, maintenance and movement of household goods, and personnel to and from the installation and satellite activities. Directorate of Human Resources
The Directorate of Human Resources (DHR) encompasses the Adjutant General (AG)/Military Personnel Division (MPD), Army Continuing Educa-tion System (ACES), Administrative Services Division (ASD), Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) and the Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP). The Headquarters and AG/MPD of the DHR are located in Building 5450 on Strom Thurmond Boulevard. The other activities of the DHR are located as follows: ACES and ACAP in Building 4600 on Strom Thurmond Boulevard, ASAP in Building 3250 on Sumter Avenue; and ASD in Building 4400 on Greene Avenue. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; ID Card Section hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; ACES hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; ASD hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; ASAP hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and ACAP hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

DHR is responsible for providing technical oversight and an integrated Human Resources Management Program support for Fort Jackson and tenant organizations assigned to Fort Jackson. The AG/MPD manages and provides policy guidance on officer, warrant officer and enlisted personnel actions. AG/MPD personnel assist the military community in career planning, retiree support, casualty management and congressional/special correspondence. The ACES provides a variety of education programs and education counseling services. ASD provides services in the area of records management, printing, correspondence management, Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act and Management Information Control. ASAP provides a variety of substance abuse services such as drug testing, counseling, training, etc. for military personnel and civilian employees. ACAP provides comprehensive transition assistance services for active and reserve military personnel, civilian employees and their Family Members who are separating from military and federal service. Directorate of Resource Management
Located in Building 2600, on the corner of Lee and Washington streets, the Directorate of Resource Management (DRM) maintains staff responsibility for both financial and manpower resources in accordance with FM 100-22, Installation Management for the Fort Jackson Garrison. DRM directs and coordinates program and budget formulation, execution and control; serves as liaison and manages installation resource matters; supports organizational management; manages and coordinates manpower and equipment programs; manages the Army Travel Card Program, Defense Travel System (DTS) Program, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), Bank Liaison and the Installation Internal Review Program. Inspector General
The mission of the Inspector General (IG) is to enhance mission readiness by inquiring and reporting into matters of mission performance, discipline, morale, efficiency and economy, and act as the CG's eyes, ears and conscience. The IG conducts and reports upon inspections required by law and regulation or directed by the commanding general. Additionally, the IG receives and acts on requests for assistance from Soldiers, family members and DoD civilians, Retirees and answers inquiries made to the 751 FAIR hotline. Directorate of Emergency Services
The Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) is assigned to the office of the Garrison Commander and comprises Soldiers, civilian employees and the support personnel. DES is located in the Emergency Service Center (Building 5499) on the corner of Jackson Boulevard and Hill Street. The directorate's organizational structure includes the Provost Marshal's Office (PMO), 17th Military Police Detachment, Fort Jackson Fire Department and the Emergency 911 Center.

Provost Marshal's Office
The Provost Marshal's Office (PMO) is part of the Directorate of Emergency Services and is assigned to the office of the Garrison Commander. It comprises military police Soldiers, Department of the Army police officers, contract security guards, civilian employees and support personnel. The PMO performs a myriad of duties and functions including vehicle registration, police administration, traffic accident investigations, Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE), civil liaison and AWOL apprehension, Military Police Investiga-tions (MPI), military working dogs (MWD), game warden, installation access control, physical security, crime prevention, lost and found property and investigating and reporting criminal activity on the installation.

The PMO plays an integral role in the successful outcome of a multitude of post-wide events such as weekly graduations and the yearly Torch Light Tattoo celebration by managing the flow of traffic and parking during these events. The PMO is the focal point in promoting traffic safety on the installation by routinely conducting sobriety and contraband checkpoints, speed-enforcement operations and conducting random gate searches.

The MWD section assists units and organizations on the installation with health and welfare inspections, building searches for unsecured buildings and other such requests as needed. With an emphasis on community support and safety for resident Soldiers and their families, the PMO provides bicycle patrols in the housing areas using assets from COPS and provides an active DARE program to the DoD schools on Fort Jackson.

911 Center
The 911 Center is staffed by full-time, enhanced 911 dispatchers who receive all requests for emergency responses to all fire, police or emergency medical situations. They also dispatch all appropriate DES response units to an incident and act as the communications focal point for all operations performed at an emergency scene. All security and fire alarms are monitored in the 911 Center.

Fire Prevention and Protection Division
The Fort Jackson Fire Department, located in the Emergency Services Center, maintains a multitude of fire apparatus with a continuous staffing of firefighters who are always on duty. The Operations Branch is responsible for responding to all fires, chemical releases/spills and medical emergencies in support of Moncrief Hospital, natural disasters and any type of rescue incidents. They also provide training to the community education in first-aid, CPR and AED use. A fire prevention staff of fire inspectors performs fire inspections of all post facilities, ensures fire code enforcement in new con-struction projects and educates various groups in fire safety matters.

17th Military Police Detachment
Assigned to the Fort Jackson Directorate of Emergency Services (DES), the Military Police Company, consisting of both military police and administrative logistical personnel, supports the PMO by performing administrative/logistical functions.

Public Affairs
The Public Affairs Office is responsible for providing a comprehensive Public Affairs program in support of the commands, units and organizations located on, operationally assigned to, or associated with the installation. Divided into three sections, Public Information, Command Information and Community Relations, the public affairs staff is a key asset for the commander to accurately project and convey information.

The Fort Jackson Leader, a weekly commercial-enterprise Army newspaper with a circulation of 15,000, is published and distributed each Thursday. Story ideas are always welcome. Plans, Analysis, and Integration Office
The Plans, Analysis, and Integration Office (PAIO) provides strategic and operational analysis and integration for the installation through perfor-mance, process, and cost assessments; implementation of best business practices; and the promotion, collection and analysis of customer feedback. The PAIO is located at 3499 Daniel St. (next to Darby Field).

Installation Safety Office
Fort Jackson Safety Center Located at 3240 Sumter Ave, the Safety Center is responsible for staff oversight of the Safety and Occupational Health Program, as well as the integration of Composite Risk Management into operations and training. The Safety Center identifies hazards and recommends mitigation measures for the elimination or reduction of risk. Customers that wish to report hazards anonymously may call the Safety Hotline at 751-SAFE (7233). The Safety Center also provides Risk Management and Safety training for a wide variety of topics, including Hazard Communication and Motorcycle Safety training. The Internal Review and Audit Compliance (IRAC) Office is responsible for providing internal review evaluations, liaison services and internal management control process services to installation personnel. Audit requirements identified by the garrison commander or members of the Fort Jackson senior leadership team are addressed by IRAC Office personnel. The IRAC Office serves as the installation commander's liaison between installation and external audit personnel to process follow-up on tentative findings and recommendations and final reports of audit.
