Fort Irwin - Services & Facilities

1. FINANCIAL READINESS
Army Emergency Relief provides emergency financial assistance to active duty and retired military and their Family Members. They offer interest-free loans during times of emergency. Loans are provided to prevent termination of utilities or housing, emergency travel, repair of Soldier's/ Family's only essential vehicle, etc. Soldier or Family Member must visit with their command financial noncommissioned officer prior to coming to ACS, with exceptions made only for Red Cross messages. Consumer Affairs and Financial Assistance Program provides financial planning and budget counseling to Soldiers and their Families on an individual basis. Checkbook maintenance classes and Financial management training are conducted regularly as well as unit training on personal finances. The program is located in Building 548. Financial Management Readiness Training provides training to first-term Soldiers and their Families in the areas of checkbook management, investments, savings, major purchases, insurance, etc. Telephone: (760) 380-4265. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Commodities is a food supplement program. Eligibility is based on Family size and income. Commodities come in the first Thursday of every month and are distributed at Building 548 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Telephone: (760) 380-4784.

Women, Infants and Children is an educational and nutritional food voucher program for pregnant/nursing women and children under the age of five who are at nutritional risk. Eligibility is determined by San Bernardino County personnel and is based on Family size and income. The program is located in Building 548 and is open every Thursday and third Wednesday of each month, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed noon to 1 p.m. Telephone: (760) 380-5465. 2. DEPLOYMENT/ MOBILIZATION READINESS
Army Family Team Building offers classes that increase awareness of the military way of life, builds self-esteem and eases the adjustment to life as an Army spouse/Family. The program is located in the Forum, Building 1200. Telephone: (760) 380-AFTB (2382).

The Army Family Action Plan is a program that allows input from the people of the Army to Army leadership. It's a process that lets Soldiers and Families say what's working, and what isn't and what they think will fix it. It alerts commanders and Army leaders to areas of concern that need their attention and it gives them the opportunity to quickly put plans into place to work toward resolving the issues. Installations and local levels hold AFAP forums—active and Reserve Soldiers, Retirees, surviving spouses, DA civilians, Family Members and tenant organizations identify issues they believe are important to maintain a good standard of living. Issues are either worked at the local level or submitted up the chain of command for resolution. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-2382.

Family Readiness Group offers support and information to FRG leaders, commanders and first sergeants, while conducting monthly training for FRG personnel and annual training for commanders, first sergeants and FRG leaders. FRGs is required to register at ACS before getting approval to have fundraisers on post. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-AFTB (2382).

3. SOLDIER AND FAMILY READINESS
Information and Referral maintains an extensive resource directory on the military and civilian community. Telephone: (760) 380-4784.

Family Advocacy Program assists Army Families in maintaining a sound quality of life. It provides and coordinates education programs on child/spouse abuse, parenting skills, couples communications and anger/stress management. Family Advocacy Program acts as a liaison between civilian and military human services organizations to assist service members and their Families obtain appropriate, responsive assistance. They can provide crisis intervention for Family problems such as child/spouse abuse, marital problems and parent-child problems. Family Advocacy Program offers referral to temporary shelter for victims of abuse. Other programs include the "Kids on the Block," Opportunities for Kids, Parent Partner Program and Parenting classes. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-4470.

Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program provides victim advocacy services to victims of sexual assault as well as education services to Soldiers, Department of Defense civilians and Family Members. Telephone: (760) 380-4474.

Exceptional Family Member Program works to meet the needs of Family Members with physical, emotional, development or intellectual disorders requiring specialized services. Services provided are information and referral, client advocacy, support groups and case management. Enrollment of Family Members with documented special needs is mandatory. New Parent Support Program. PLUS is a Family support program that promotes positive parenting and healthy Families. They offer services to Families with children 3 years of age and under and expectant parents. Play mornings are held every Tuesday at the Youth Center, 9:30 to 11 a.m. They offer Infant Care and Parenting classes, along with Home Visitations. Their services are free; the office is located in Building 548, Telephone: (760) 380-4021.

Community Life Program is designed for Fort Irwin residents to provide a direct link between the community and the NTC commander and staff. The Fort Irwin community is divided into 13 villages. Each village has a mayor and vice mayor who act as liaison between the residents and commander. They represent the community at monthly Community Services Council meetings, Mayors meeting, Town Hall meetings, and the yearly Army Family Action Plan Symposium. The Community Life Program also oversees the bi-annual Spouses Tour and the ACS Holiday Program. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-3776.

Fort Irwin Military Connection and Resource Center extends one hand to another, bridging the gap between military personnel, spouses, dependents and the community. Located in Barstow, it offers many of the services available at the ACS office on Fort Irwin. First and foremost, the Fort Irwin Military Connection and Resource Center is a home away from home, as well as, a place to relax, adjust and meet other military Families. Some of the services available are Resource Information and Referrals, Employment Readiness, Lending Closet, Volunteering, Spouse Support Groups and the New Parent Support Program NTC Express Tickets are also available. 4. EMPLOYMENT READINESS
Family Member Employment Assistance Program provides employment resources, assisting Family Members in locating job vacancies, with résumé writing and interviewing techniques. Computers are available for use. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-5165. Installation Volunteer Management Program was established to assist Soldiers and Family Members in locating volunteer positions that provide both immediate and continuing benefits. Skills and job development, plus documented volunteer hours, allow Fort Irwin and Fort Irwin Military Connection and Resource Center volunteers a viable option when paid employment is either unavailable or undesirable. The Installation Volunteer Coordinator also coordinates the annual Volunteer Recognition. Contributing your time to the service of others helps build a stronger community while providing an opportunity for positive self-development. The coordinator's office is located in Building 548. 5. RELOCATION READINESS
Relocation Assistance Program offers assistance and counseling for Soldiers and Family Members where they offer the distribution of welcome packets and arrival information for newcomers. Welcome packets and Standard Installation Topic Exchanges System are available for military installations around the world. The program provides basic immigration and citizenship information, assistance with cultural adaptation, sponsorship program for Soldiers/ Families and First Term Soldier Referrals. The relocation coordinator also coordinates the Community Activities Information and Registration Fair. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-3598.

The Lending Closet provides temporary loans to relocating Soldiers and their Family Members of small household items free of charge. It offers cookware, dishes, small appliances, sleeping mats, play pens, car seats, high chairs, irons, ironing boards, etc. The program is located in Building 548. Telephone: (760) 380-3598.

6. SOLDIER AND FAMILY ASSISTANCE CENTER
Provides tailored integrated support services while serving as an information broker/clearing house in a location proximate to Warriors in Transition and their Families. The purpose of the services is to equip and aid Warriors in making life changing decisions as they transition either back to duty or to civilian life.
