CYS Services child development centers offer care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old in three formats: full-day, part-day, and hourly care. Our child development centers use Creative Curriculum or a developmental approach to the care and growth of children. The curriculum includes a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences, small- and large-group activities, and both active and quiet play periods. Play experiences provide children with opportunities for learning as an interactive, hands-on process.
As a quality child development program, our activities are based on the knowledge that play is the vehicle through which children naturally learn to understand and deal with the world. Through play, they will practice decision making and develop language skills. We strive to provide the warmth and security necessary for all children to grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
Strong Beginnings is a program that has been developed to ensure military children are prepared to enter kindergarten and have the skills and abilities necessary to be successful in the public school system. The Chapel, Po Valley, and Riva Ridge CDCs all support the Strong Beginnings enrichment initiative in pre-kindergarten classrooms. Our curriculum, staff and projected values all intertwine to provide a supportive, comfortable and accepting atmosphere so each child will develop a healthy self-concept and positive outlook on life.
To support the commitment to quality programming, Chapel Drive, Chapel Drive Annex, Riva Ridge and Po Valley CDCs are certified annually by the Department of Defense. Chapel Drive CDC and Memorial CDC are accredited from the National Association Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program that works with other military and civilian agencies to provide Military Family members with a comprehensive and coordinated medical, educational, housing, community support and personnel services to the Military Family with special needs. An exceptional Family member is a Family member (child or adult) with any physical, medical, emotional, developmental, and intellectual disorder that requires special treatment, therapy, education, training or counseling. Special education services are available to students in the public schools. Students can receive such services as speech, physical and occupational therapy, remedial reading and math, counseling and others services. If the service isn't available in the child's school district, the child is bussed to the nearest district where the service is provided.
The Army Community Service Center also helps Family members by developing and maintaining community support services. Respite Care is available for short term care that helps an EFMP Family take a break from the daily routine and stress of caring for special need member. Since not all Families have the same needs, Respite Care is geared toward individual Family needs by identifying the type of Respite Care needed.

Outdoor Recreation on Fort Drum
Fort Drum provides one of the largest tracts of land in the northeastern United States available to the general public for recreational use, with approximately 69,000 acres available for hunting and trapping as well as other outdoor recreational activities, dependent upon current military training operations. The only areas with limited access for hunting is 2,800 acres in the Cantonment Area (where archery hunting is allowed only by individuals possessing a Department of Defense identification card) and designated areas open to disabled access hunting only. Fort Drum has two lakes and four ponds which are regularly fished. In addition, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation stocks trout (brook, brown and rainbow) annually in selected bodies of water.
Outdoor recreation on the installation is managed by the Fort Drum's Fish and Wildlife Management Program. Fort Drum follows New York State regulations for seasons and bag limits for fishing, hunting, and trapping. Active duty military personnel stationed at Fort Drum are considered state residents and do not have to pay non-resident license fees. NYS hunting, fishing and trapping licenses may be purchased off post at local licensing agencies, or online. Visit the NYSDEC website at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/365.html for more information.
All first-time hunters and trappers must pass a safety/education course before obtaining a license from NYS. Courses are free-of-charge and administered by the NYSDEC. To learn more, see the NYSDEC website at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7860.html or call the Regional Sportsman Education office at (315) 785-2533.
