Welcome to the Army Education Center at the Robert C. McEwen Education Complex. Here you will find both traditional and non-traditional courses by local colleges and other Department of Defense/Department of the Army programs designed to enhance Soldier and workforce readiness through education.
The Army Education Center provides a wide range of services to both Soldiers and Family members at Fort Drum. Co-located with the post library in Bldg. P-4300, the center provides traditional and nontraditional educational opportunities and counseling services for the military, their Families, and the civilian workforce. The education center supports not only Fort Drum, but also an area of responsibility for northern and western New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine including Watervliet Arsenal, N.Y.

Basic Skills Education Program

The Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP) is a 17-day, on-duty program designed to provide Soldiers with instruction on math, reading, and language skills. The goal is to improve job performance, prepare Soldiers for advanced schooling, civilian higher education, increase reenlistment options and enhance trainability. Hours: Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-noon; or 1 p.m.-4 p.m, (as scheduled)
Multi-Use Lea
rning Resource Center
(315) 772-9993 The Multi-Use Learning Resource Center (MLF) provides a wide range of educational services and resources to the military community. Some of these services and resources are: Army Correspondence Course Program assistance, MOS library reference materials, various information and study guides on military and civilian testing, foreign language CD-ROMs and self-study material for reading, grammar, GED preparation, and English-as-a-second language study material. Hours: Mon-Fri 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.

Army counselors are available to support Fort Drum active duty personnel, their Spouses, Reserve components, and other services in a variety of counseling settings.
Army Personnel Testing

Army personnel testing is done through the Education Center's test center. The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), GT Predictor (PreGT) and the Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT) are just a few tests conducted at the center. They are all critical links in improving a Soldier's general technical (GT) score. These test scores are linked to a variety of personnel actions including retention, reclassification, specialty training or pre-commissioning programs.
Nontraditional and Other Educational Opportunities

Nontraditional education opportunities supplement traditional college programs to provide flexibility. These programs are coordinated through the Education Center and the Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Support (DANTES). DANTES validates both academic and experiential work by providing a wide variety of examinations including the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) test, college admissions (SAT/ACT), credit-by examination programs (CLEP/DSST), and an extensive number of certification examinations.

The State University of New York (SUNY) system is the primary provider of college-level education in the state. Created in 1948, SUNY is the nation's largest, most diverse, multi-campus higher education system. It is made up of 64 campuses: community colleges, two-year colleges of technology, specialized and traditional four-year colleges, research university campuses and health science centers. Within this system, the SUNY Colleges of the North Country consortium provides information and access to higher education opportunities in the Watertown/Fort Drum area. SUNY Empire offers programs from a nontraditional approach, with degrees ranging from associates through masters on Fort Drum or at the Watertown center. Numerous courses and majors are available. Classes are offered in an independent study or online format, and because students design their own degrees, most transfer credits are easily accepted.

Located in Watertown, Jefferson Community College serves approximately 3,600 full and part-time students from Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties, including a significant number of service members and their Families from Fort Drum. Jefferson offers 15 associate degree career programs, 11 associate degree transfer programs and 7 certificate programs, including highly regarded programs in nursing, accounting, early childhood education, hospitality and tourism, paramedic and criminal justice. Jefferson offers classes and provides advisors at the Fort Drum Education Center. The college's online program, which includes 6 online degrees, is highly acclaimed by both GoArmyEd military students and civilian students. Additionally, the college offers a wide variety of personal enrichment and professional development non-credit workshops, seminars and workforce training opportunities throughout the year.

Columbia College, Fort Drum, offers upperlevel coursework leading to bachelor degrees in business, criminal justice, history, psychology and general studies. Columbia offers a Spouses' Opportunity Scholarship allowing active-duty spouses to take their first Columbia class tuition free.
