Birch Lake
The camp is nestled in the wilderness on the shore of Birch Lake, which is brimming with rainbow trout and Arctic char. Cabins, camper pads, tent spots, picnic area, boats, canoes and a lodge are available for use. Activities include boating, canoeing, water skiing, fishing, berry picking, wading and barbecuing. Don't forget your camera—you're likely to see wildlife including moose, fox, beaver, a wide variety of waterfowl and an occasional eagle. Although camping is limited to the summer months, the rest of the area is open year round, with winter cabin rental and activity programs. Valdez
Valdez is located 314 miles south of Eielson on the north shore of Port Valdez, a deepwater fjord in Prince William Sound. Valdez offers great fishing and hiking, and has terrific potential for whale sightings. It is the last stop of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline. Eielson has six camping trailer sites equipped with electrical power and water at Sea Otter Campground. Five "you drive" boats are available for rent for fishing and sightseeing. Iceman Falls Ski Hill & Lodge
Outdoor Adventure programs and winter equipment check-out can be found at the Iceman Falls Lodge on base. The lodge has cross-country ski trails, a sled hill, ski hill and lift, and an ice rink. Winter snow lovers may schedule snowmobile tours or ice fishing outings with the outdoor adventure crew. The lodge is located at the end of Quarry Road in Bldg. 1377. Skeet and Trap
The skeet and trap range is located at the end of Quarry Road, near the Iceman Falls Ski Hill & Lodge. The two ranges are equipped with a high house, a low house and five-stand for skeet shooting, and also offer a trap house. There are eight positions for trap and five positions for skeet. Patrons may rent 12-gauge shotguns; shotgun shells are available for purchase. Call (907) 377-5338 for more information.
Golf
The nearest military golf course is Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright, about 25 miles from Eielson toward Fairbanks. There are also two public courses in the area, although play is usually limited to June, July and August. Call (907) 353-6223 for more information.
Bear Lake Family Camp
Eielson's Bear Lake Family Camp, located on base, is open May 15 through Labor Day. This exciting camping area offers 41 camper pads and eight tent sites. Amenities include showers, bathrooms, laundry facilities, canoe rental and an on-site dump station. Equipment Checkout

Fitness and Sports Center
Wally ball and racquetball courts, exercise rooms, a steam room, saunas, weight rooms, massage therapy, locker rooms, a basketball court, an indoor swimming pool, a volleyball court, an indoor football field, an indoor running track and an athletic equipment check-out center are all part of this coed fitness complex. Intramural sports consist of basketball, golf, softball, racquetball, tennis, flag football and volleyball. Instructional classes are offered in aerobics, pilates, weight training, boot camp and aqua aerobics. Clubs
The 354th Force Support Squadron operates two club facilities, the Aurora Club and Yukon Club. The Aurora Club, Bldg. 2584, is located in base housing and is a great place for private parties, meetings and social gatherings. Officers looking for a place to relax after a long week can visit the Sourdough Saloon lounge, with big screen TVs and pool tables, on Friday evenings. The Yukon Club, Bldg. 2470, offers a sports lounge and snack bar, a workday lunch and features an extensive menu including pizza and grilled hamburgers, available midday to evening. The sports lounge, for enlisted members on Friday evenings, has televisions arranged in sports bar fashion, a dance floor and pool tables. Bowling
The Arctic Nite Lanes is a 20-lane bowling center with automatic scoring open to both league and nonleague bowlers. The center also has a snack bar and pro shop. Thunder Alley, glowin- the-dark bowling with a state-of-theart light show and stereo sound system, is available most weekends and for private parties by prior arrangement. Children's birthday party packages are offered. The snack bar is open Monday through Sunday. The grill closes a halfhour prior to the snack bar closing. The bowling center is located in Bldg. 409. Skate Park
The youth center has an outdoor skate park next to the center. The park is open for skateboard use and inline skating and features several rails, quarter pipes and a half pipe. Arts & Crafts
Formerly the skills development center, this multi-crafts center provides organized creative skills development activities in Bldg. 2540, next to the commissary. Classes are scheduled according to base population interests and instructors are sought from the community. People with custom handcrafts are encouraged to display work for sale through the consignment program. The award shop offers custom graphic work and engraving on plaques, trophies, shirts, cups, gold pans and Alaska treasures. The custom frame shop can frame most flat work at a fraction of off-base costs. The center offers monthly specials, UPS services and balloon bouquets. Call (907) 377-4880 for more information.
Information, Ticket & Travel

Auto Skills Center
Self-directed automotive work is highlighted at the center in Bldg. 2611. Skilled technicians are available to provide guidance. Sixteen auto stalls are available and include three lifts and a welding stall. Workstations are equipped with toolboxes and specialty tools can be checked out. A variety of computerized diagnostic services are also available. During winter months, the center provides a stall for car washing.
