These "homes-away-from-home" are equipped with the latest in recreation activities including video games, movies, large-screen TVs, computers, free Wi-Fi and planned special events. The centers provide a comfortable setting for leisure time activities and relaxation. Each center contains a snack bar featuring a variety of foods/beverages for the convenience of the patrons.
Additionally, the SMP functions as the administrator for Operation Noble Heart, Camp Lejeune's volunteer program. The SMP staff matches those wanting to volunteer with non-profit organizations and special events, keeps track of volunteer hours, and ensures that those hours are formally recognized in the military members' official records. The Camp Lejeune SMP program HQ is located in Building 564 on M Street. This office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; closed weekends and holidays. Naval Dental Center
The Naval Dental Center was established as the Dental Department, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in the early 1940s. On Jan. 1, 1975, it became a tenant command and was renamed the Naval Regional Dental Center.
The name was changed again June 30, 1985, to the Naval Dental Clinic as part of the reorganization of the Naval Medical Command. It was then renamed once more as the Naval Dental Center Oct. 1, 1990, with the reintroduction of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
On July 19, 1994, the Naval Dental Center and 2nd Dental Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, merged under one command element providing comprehensive dental support to the active duty military personnel of II MEF. The clinics provide space-available dental care to eligible family members and military retirees.
More than 40,000 family members in the Camp Lejeune area are enrolled in the Family Member Dental Plan. This volunteer program, sponsored by the United Concordia Companies, Inc., covers comprehensive dental care for family members of active duty personnel who choose to have their dental care provided by a private dentist in the local Onslow County area.

Dogs, cats, tropical fish, turtles, guinea pigs, white mice, gerbils and caged birds are the only pets authorized in family housing. Other pets must be specifically authorized in writing by the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Base. Pets in base housing must be registered with the Base Vet Clinic, (910) 450-2111.
Domestic animals that display traits of aggression represent an undue risk to the safety and tranquility of MCB Camp Lejeune and its personnel. The Commandant of the Marine Corps identified breeds of domestic animals that have a tendency for aggression as "Prohibited breeds." Full or mixed breeds of Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, wolf hybrids, or any canine breed with dominant traits geared toward aggression, as determined by the Base Veterinarian, are prohibited aboard Camp Lejeune.
Incoming personnel with pets must register their pets prior to assignment to a PPV housing unit. In order to register the pet with the Base Veterinarian you must provide proof of a civilian or military veterinarian certification of required vaccination and a functioning microchip identification device. Registration with the Base Veterinarian and proof of registration must be provided to the Military Housing Office in order to be placed on an active waiting list.
Upon receipt of an application for housing, prospective residents will be provided more detailed information about pet registration requirements and prohibited breeds. Recycling
Camp Lejeune's Qualified Recycling Program reduces the amount of waste generated and disposed. The program includes office white paper pick-up, materials recovery facility and used oil recycling to support to all major subordinate commands located aboard the base. The recycling program provides five consolidated turn-in facilities located throughout MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River for recycled material collection. Recyclable materials can be dropped off at these locations 24 hours per day, seven days a week. The recycling program accepts the following: aluminum and steel cans, glass, newspaper, corrugated cardboard, plastic beverage containers and office and mixed paper.
Proceeds from the Qualified Recycling Program are used for program improvement, to provide instruction to residents, civilians and military personnel on what and how to recycle and to help pay for collection of recyclables. In addition, the recycling program helps meet the DoD 40 percent waste reduction goal.
Base Recycling
Camp Lejeune's QRP, with the assistance of the Base Landfill operations, provides recycling containers for the collection of the following: cardboard, glass, wood, comingled paper, steel, copper, textiles, batteries, aluminum and plastic collection containers. If a unit needs large exterior solid waste or recycling containers, they need to submit a work ticket to the Public Works Work Ticket Desk, (910) 451-3001, Building 1005. Requests for small interior containers utilized in break, snack and common area rooms may be submitted to the Recycling Office via phone at (910) 451-4214.

Your efforts to reduce waste volumes and to properly segregate and handle the solid wastes generated are very important. Curbside recycling and recycling drop-off centers are rapidly becoming available in local communities. Please familiarize yourself with the procedures for recycling in your community and feel free to contact the Base Landfill or Recycling Offices with any questions, concerns or requests for support.
Household Hazardous Materials
The Environmental Management Division has established a Household Hazardous Material Collection program for active duty military personnel and dependents residing in Base housing units. Participants will be able to pick up reusable materials turned in by other participants. Items accepted by the HHM Program include household cleaners, solvent and thinners, paints, lighter fluids and used oil.
Used Oil Recycling
Used oil from privately owned vehicles is a major polluter of our nation's environment. Base residents changing the oil in personal vehicles are required to dispose of the oil properly. Safety Initiatives
There are a number of safety initiatives that have been enacted to protect the Marines, Sailors, civilians and family members aboard MCB Camp Lejeune. Three issues you should be aware of are:
1. Voluntary Protection Program—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration VPP began in 1982 to recognize workplace excellence in promoting worker safety and health. VPP recognizes outstanding efforts to implement effective safety and health management systems. The VPP Center of Excellence is a Department of Defense initiative to achieve significant improvement in safety performance at military installations and organizations. DoD VPP CX is assisting MCB Camp Lejeune in achieving OSHA VPP "Star Status." MCB Camp Lejeune is one of two MCIEAST installations participating in the OSHA VPP.
2. Enterprise Safety Application Management System—A web enabled database that instantly connects employees, supervisors, managers and safety professionals. ESAMS is a tool that assists in effectively managing all aspects of safety and health programs, to include inspections, mishaps/investigations, training, medical surveillance, job hazard analysis and much more. MCB Camp Lejeune is the first of seven MCIEAST installations to utilize ESAMS.
3. All Terrain Vehicle/Utility Vehicle Safety Training—The training offers students an opportunity to increase their safety knowledge in ATV/UTV driving and to practice basic riding skills in a controlled environment. ATV/UTV safety course card issued upon completion. To register, logon to: http://www.navymotorcyclerider.com.
4. Safety Fairs—Upon unit request, MCB Camp Lejeune Base Safety Office can support with several items to enhance traffic safety awareness: seatbelt convincer, golf carts with fatal vision goggles course, drive simulators and the Vince and Larry crash test dummies.
5. Restricted Road Use—Catfish Lake Road (between NC Highways 58 and 70) is restricted from use by military personnel on or off duty per MCIEAST Order 5100.3.
