Commissary/Exchange

The Defense Commissary Agency opened the Anchorage Area Commissary, a state-of-the-art commissary in the south end of the Joint Military Mall, in 1999. The mall, located at 5800 Westover Avenue serves Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson residents, their families, retirees, National Guard and Reserve members in the Anchorage area.

The commissary boasts 49,000 square feet of sales area with more than 14,000 line items plus holiday and seasonal items for patron convenience.

In addition to the typical grocery, meat, produce and dairy departments, the commissary offers a full-service bakery and delicatessen with hot, ready-to-go foods to meet the busy lifestyles of its customers. The commissary has a Sushi Bar with products made fresh daily. The deli and bakery also have menus available for pick up and the capability to fill same-day faxed orders. The fax number is 580-1674 The commissary has a state-of-the-art checkout system. The system includes 18 full-service registers and four self-checkouts for quick and easy purchases of 25 items or fewer. The self checkouts are great for in and out lunch or dinner purchases. Methods of payment include credit card, debit card, cash or check. An ATM machine is also available.

Special-order service is available in all departments with 24-hour notice. The commissary is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the exception of the following Federal holidays: New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The store is open on all other federal holidays, to include Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
