Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
The JBER chapel community is known for upbeat and dynamic
worship, vibrant children's ministry, youth and young adult (Airmen
and Soldiers) ministries, uplifting music, powerful preaching,
strong religious education and a world-class staff. All people
are welcome to share their talents and gifts with the chapel to
the glory of God. Currently, between 250 and 300 volunteers are
active in the chapel.
Chaplains provide confidential counseling to military members
and their families, flight line and unit visitation and comprehensive
pastoral care. Chaplain Corps ministry extends to deployed
locations, and if your loved one is deployed, the JBER chapel
team is dedicated to serving you in his/her absence.
Protestant and Catholic worship services - including daily
Mass - as well as other denominational services, are available
on both sides of the installation and are open to all. The chapel
community includes more than 1,500 attending services
each month.
The Religious Education programs offer a wide variety of activities
including Wednesday Veritas (CCD classes for Catholics)
and Protestant classes, for ages ranging from nursery school
through high school. All are welcome at our Wednesday events
(Veritas & Discovery), which begin with a meal and end with
catechism/Bible studies (see "JBER-Richardson" section, below).
Weekly Bible study groups and other adult religious education
opportunities are also a vital part of the religious education program.
The annual Vacation Bible School is often supported by
both the Protestant and Catholic communities.
The Protestant and Catholic communities offer a wide variety
of activities through the innovative leadership of chapel councils.
These include adult and children's choirs, Military Council of
Catholic Women (MCCW) and Protestant Women of the Chapel
(PWOC), Christian men's organizations, and many special family
and social events. MCCW and PWOC meet Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
(also 7 p.m. - PWOC) in the Soldiers' Chapel.
Chaplains and other staff members conduct religious retreats
off-base for singles, engaged couples, families, youth and married
couples. These range from one-day retreats to weekend activities
for couples and families, and a week of camp for children and
youth during the summer.
The Chaplain Family Life Center has family life chaplains
with advanced degrees and certification in marriage and family
counseling, providing specialized help to individuals, couples
and families.
"Hospitality House" is a vibrant Young Adult ministry happening
weekly in Eagle River valley. "Club Beyond" provides activities
and fun for 6th graders through high school. Life Teen, a Catholic
Youth program, is offered for teens from seventh grade through
high school on the first and third Sunday of each month.
