Getting To and Around

Updated On: 4/12/2012 11:27:09 AM

HOWARD COUNTY
In 2007, the Baltimore Region Rail System Plan Final Report recommended a rail system extending north, south, east and west to connect the entire region. The new system adds 66 miles to the existing 43 miles of metro subway and light rail lines, as well as 68 new stations to the 54 that exist now. The first step toward fulfilling the plan is the Red Line, a 12-mile, east-west transit corridor that connects Woodlawn—the station nearest Howard County—West Baltimore, downtown Baltimore, Canton and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Campus by 2016. The same report also advocated a rail line into Howard County and Columbia within the next 40 years.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
Interstate 97, the country's only main-line interstate highway contained completely within a single county, serves as Anne Arundel's major road artery. Interstate 595 runs through the county but is marked as US Highway 50 and US Route 301. Anne Arundel County's western shore is linked to the eastern shore of Queen Anne's County by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
