UNITED STATES AIR FORCE MISSION
The goal: "To fly, fight and win...in air, space and cyberspace."
The vision: The USAF will be a trusted and reliable joint partner with our sister services known for integrity in all of our activities, including supporting the joint mission first and foremost. We will provide compelling air, space, and cyber capabilities for use by the combatant commanders. We will excel as stewards of all AF resources in service to all Americans, while providing precise and reliable global vigilance, reach and power for the nation. The AF has three core competencies: developing personnel, technology-to-warfighting and integrating operations. This expertise makes our six distinctive capabilities possible:

• Air and Space Superiority—With it, joint forces can dominate enemy operations in all dimensions—land, sea, air and space.
• Global Attack—Technological advances enable the AF to attack anywhere, anytime—faster and with greater precision than ever before.
• Rapid Global Mobility—Capable to respond quickly and decisively anywhere for rapid global mobility. • Precision Engagement—Apply selective force against specific targets with precise and reliable military power with minimal risk and collateral damage.
• Information Superiority—Joint force commanders incorporate state-of-the-art technology into all campaign plans.
• Agile Combat Support—Deployment and sustainment combined are keys to successful operations and apply to all forces, from permanently based to contingency buildups to expeditionary.

Overall, USAF bases share these core competencies and distinctive capabilities in a commitment to three core values—integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do.

UNITS
633 Air Base Wing
The Air Force established the special operations group in 1966 under the Thirteenth Air Force as part of Pacific Air Forces at Pleiku Air Base 62, South Vietnam. Personnel included elements of the 14th Special Operations Wing at Nha Trang Air Base and the 1st Special Operations Wing on Temporary Duty from Hurlburt Field, Fla. During the Vietnam War, the unit participated in numerous campaigns, air offensives and Operations Arc Light, Bullet Shot and Linebacker. Other responsibilities involved training South Vietnamese Air Force personnel to employ, maintain and force integrate their aircraft.

The special ops group assumed the 633d Air Base Wing moniker in 1989 when the Strategic Air Command transferred command of Andersen AFB, Guam, to PACAF and the 633 ABW became the host unit. Less than a year later the unit began shipping munitions to the Persian Gulf during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm—more than 30,000 tons by sealift, and more than 2,200 troops and 2,200 tons of cargo aboard 200 aircraft.

In June 1991, 633 ABW personnel cared for more than 20,000 American evacuees and 1,100 pets following the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. But three years later the USAF inactivated the unit and then activated the 36 ABW to ensure the most highly decorated and longest-serving groups remained on active-duty.

Nearly 16 years later, the Ninth Air Force reactivated the 633d ABW as the host unit for Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
