Career Focus Program
This employment assistance program provides information and skills training for military spouses to enable them to enter or re-enter the job market. Basically, the program helps spouses prepare for their job search and obtain employment in addition to offering long and short term career counseling.

Services include: job referrals, educational opportunities, resume/job application assistance and resource library. Workshops are offered monthly to assist with career development in resume writing, interviewing skills, job search and federal jobs.

If coming from overseas locations, spouses of military members may be eligible for unemployment benefits with the state of Virginia. If coming from another state, you may apply via an interstate claim. Eligibility varies from state to state. You must register with the Virginia State Employment Service to apply for unemployment in the state of Virginia.

Military spouses also may be eligible for preference in some DoD hiring. But the spouse must be already serving on an accepted appointment overseas or on a career or career-conditional appointment at the time of the PCS orders. The spouse must be placed on leave without pay or be separated from their appointment due to PCS in order to receive spouse preference priority placement consideration.

This program provides customer-driven travel venues, services and other entertainment activities. The office offers discount tickets to the local museums, movie theaters and major theme parks such as Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Paramount’s Kings Dominion and Six Flags, as well as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World in Florida and California.

Customers also receive guidance and information brochures on various activities, venues, hotel information and area maps, as well as help plan group trips and vacations. To that extent, ITT maintains two buses—a 38 and a 35 passenger—for one-day excursions to visit our surrounding area. Some frequently visited sites include the Washington National Zoo, the Smithsonian Institute, Baltimore Aquarium, State Fair of Virginia and Delaware’s Dover Downs Slots.
