The LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport operates three acute care hospitals in the region, encompassing Shreveport, Monroe and Pineville, La. As Louisiana's major university referral center, the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport is home to state-designated Centers of Excellence including the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and a Center of Excellence in Arthritis and Rheumatology.

The hospital's main campus also features an accredited Children's Hospital, a regional Burn Center and a Level One Trauma Center. A leader in the field of health care locally, regionally and nationally, the Willis-Knighton Health System has been serving the growing community of Shreveport-Bossier City since 1924. Originally one small hospital, Willis-Knighton now includes four hospitals as well as a retirement community and a full range of support services.

The health care provider has been first in the area with many medical advances, including its Center for Women's Health, an eye institute and the Willis-Knighton Heart & Vascular Institute. Willis-Knighton was the state's first private hospital to team with a public, academic medical center, Louisiana Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. The WK/LSUHSC Regional Transplant Center and the Center for Fertility are two examples of their collaborative ventures. In addition, advances in cancer care have been made at the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center, one of the first sites in the world to introduce TomoTherapy image-guided radiation therapy.
