Fort Bliss and East Bliss, (the differences between the two)

Fort Bliss is located in the center of El Paso and extends north past the Texas state line into New Mexico. There are two posts that border one another to create what Fort Bliss is today. Main Post, which is the original area of Fort Bliss, is located North of Interstate 10 and East of US Highway 54 (Patriot Freeway) The Welcome Center is located in Bldg 503 on Main Post. East Bliss, formerly known as “Biggs Army Airfield” is the rapidly expanding portion of post that will eventually contain 2/3 of all Soldiers stationed at Fort Bliss. East Bliss is located North of Main Post and is easily accessible from a newly constructed expressway, the 601 Spur, also known as the Liberty Expressway.

Accessing Main Fort Bliss

From US 54

Personnel arriving via US 54 can enter through one of three gates, depending on which direction they are arriving from.

Personnel traveling North on Highway 54 they can enter through either the Pershing Gate (hours 0500-0900 and 1500-1800, 5 Days a week), or the Cassidy Gate which is accessible 24 hours a day.

Personnel traveling South on US 54 can enter Cassidy Gate, Pershing Gate, or the Sheridan Gate. All Gate are accessible by following the signs, through the mass construction underway, personnel may only access these gate via the exit to Fred Wilson. Upon taking this exit, personnel will continue traveling South on the access road to get to each gate.

From Interstate 10 East

Personnel arriving via I-10 can exit at Joe Battle Blvd, 375 loop and travel North to the intersection of the 601 Spur, or Liberty Expressway. Upon taking that exit, personnel should follow the loop to the Chaffee Exit and enter through that the gate.

Airway Blvd and travel North on Airway Blvd. and cross through the intersection of Airport rd., from here they will enter the post from the east side through the Robert E. Lee gate which is a 24-hour gate.

Additionally, personnel may exit onto US 54 and enter through the Pershing Gate by following signs for Pershing Rd. or through the Cassidy Gate by following signs to Cassidy Rd.

Accessing East Bliss

From US 54

To access East Bliss from US 54, personnel traveling North can exit Fred Wilson and turn right at the light onto Fred Wilson. Fred Wilson is currently undergoing a mass construction project, so be cautious and obey speed limits at all times. Upon making the right hand turn, this road becomes the 601 Spur or Liberty Expressway. Personnel may follow this expressway to one of three exits to access East Bliss, Sgt. Major Blvd, which is the main 24 hour gate; the Global Reach/Old Ironside exit takes one to the Global Reach gate, a 24 hour gate; or the Constitution exit which takes one to the General Harmon Gate, open Monday-Friday, 5:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Personnel traveling south on US 54 may access the 375 loop, or Transmountain Blvd traveling east, the 375 loop intersects the 601 Spur or Liberty Expressway. Personnel may exit onto the 601 Spur and take one of the first three exits to access East Bliss.

Modified Access Control Points:

1. Constitution Gate will have extended hours of operation from its current operating hours of: Monday thru Friday from 0500-2100

2. Global Reach gate will be 24-hour gate. . This will accommodate duty-day hours for our Service Members, Civilian personnel, Family members, and visitors to East Bliss.

3. IBCT North will also have extended operation hours from its current operating hours of: Monday thru Friday from0500-2100. to a Sunday through Saturday 0001-2400 hours beginning 27 JUL 11.

4. 1AD Construction ACP will be closed until further notice.

New gate hours of Operation:

  • Global Reach Gate: Sunday - Saturday, 0001-2400 (24/7)
  • Constitution: Monday - Friday, 5:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. (16/5)
  • IBCT North: Sunday - Saturday, 0001-2400 (24/7)
  • 1AD Construction: Closed until Further Notice

From Interstate 10

To access East Bliss from Interstate 10 Personnel can exit at Joe Battle Blvd, or 375 loop, and follow this loop North to the intersection of the 601 Spur, or Liberty Expressway. Upon exiting on the 601 Spur, personnel may follow this expressway to one of three exits to access East Bliss, Sgt. Major Blvd, which is the main 24 hour gate; the Global Reach/Old Ironside exit takes one to the Global Reach gate, a 24 hour gate; or the Constitution exit which takes one to the General Harmon Gate, open Monday-Friday 5:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Airway Blvd and travel North to the intersection at Airport Rd. Make a right onto Airport Rd and keep in the right lane to come to the front entrance, the Sgt. Major Gate, a 24 Hour gate.

Airports

The El Paso International Airport is located just East of Main Fort and South East of East Bliss. The number to the Military Help Desk is 915-562-3606. Free shuttle service is offered through the Fort Bliss Welcome Center to inprocessing Soldiers and families; however, the families MUST BE TRAVELING WITH THE SERVICE MEMBER. To take advantage of this service Soldiers must see the Military Help desk located in the El Paso International Airport.

To access Main Fort Bliss from the airport, Service Members and their families can leave the airport traveling West on Airway and they will enter the 24 hour Robert E. Lee Gate.

To access East Bliss from the airport, Service Members and families can leave the Airport and travel west on Airway Blvd making a right hand turn onto Airport Rd. By staying in the Right lane, Airport will curve into Sgt. Major Blvd and the SGT Major Gate will be the main entrance to East Bliss.

Arriving at the Gate

When Service members and their families arrive onto Fort Bliss, they may enter through any gate without Post Decals, they only need their Military ID cards to gain entrance to the installation. Personnel must register their vehicles on post with Directorate of Emergency Services, located in Bldg 503 within ten days of coming to the installation.
