The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation includes a wide range of activities and facilities serving Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
DFMWR’s mission is to increase the Army’s effectiveness by helping commanders to maintain their Soldiers’ morale and mental and physical fitness, as well as promote the social well-being of military personnel, their families and others authorized to use DFMWR services or facilities.
This mission is accomplished by promoting maximum participation in planned and diversified Family and MWR activities such as sports, outdoor recreation, auto skills centers, special events, fitness centers, clubs, recreation centers, bingo, bowling centers, leisure travel, libraries, pools, youth centers, child development centers, family and Soldier recreation areas, and golf courses.

The Outdoor Recreation Program at Fort Stewart has the largest, most diversified program in this area. It is a sporting paradise. The Equipment Checkout Center provides a variety of outdoor recreation equipment for checkout at a nominal fee. Equipment includes fishing and ski boats, canoes, kayaks, campers, tents, camping equipment, outdoor party equipment, tables, chairs, a dunk tank, inflatables and a super cooker. Equipment is checked out on a 24-hour basis. Individuals renting any type of boat, canoe or kayak must complete a boating safety course prior to checkout.
The Pass and Permit Office controls access to the 280,000 acres. Fishing and hunting requires a Georgia state fishing and hunting license and a post permit, both of which are available at the Pass and Permit Office. The 23 managed ponds, 33 river landings and 55 miles of scenic Georgia rivers offer fishermen prime fishing from mid-February until mid-October. Fish species include largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, redear sunfish, redbreast sunfish, channel catfish, black crappie and hybrid striped bass. Hunting season opens for small game in mid-August. The big game season for whitetail deer and feral hogs begins in mid-September and continues through the first part of January. Spring gobbler season opens mid-March and runs through May.
There are 230,000 acres for hunting. Whitetail deer, feral hog, mourning dove, quail, rabbit, squirrel, wild turkeys and other game can be found in these areas. Holbrook Recreation Area at Fort Stewart provides a pet boarding facility, skeet and trap range, equipment rental center, paintball, several picnic shelters and a campground nestled in the southern pines. These areas are open year-round.
Reservations are recommended but not required. The area is open to all travelers with priority given to active-duty Soldiers and retirees. The campground has water and electrical hookups on each site with a central sewage dump station, bathhouse and laundry room. The rifle, pistol and archery ranges at Fort Stewart are located off Highway 144 east. Shooters must sign in at the Pass and Permit Office prior to shooting on the range. Individuals using the range will act as range officers. Two licensed drivers must be on the range at all times and a POV must be available for emergency transportation.
The Recreational Vehicle Storage Lot at Fort Stewart and Hunter Airfield is available for military families needing a secure area to store their recreational vehicles. This safe and secure area is fenced, lighted and monitored 24 hours a day.
Lotts Island Recreation Area
Located just inside the Rio Gate entrance of Hunter Army Airfield, the area offers picnic shelters for group functions. The area also has a fishing pier accessible 24 hours a day and provides much enjoyment for Soldiers and their family members. Opportunities for saltwater fishing are available here on the Forest River. This river provides easy access to the ocean and the coastal waterways. A license and permit are required for fishing in the salt waters of the Forest River. The Lotts Island area has docking space for military families to dock their boats long-term. Lotts Island has a boat ramp as well as a boat lift. The fees are nominal. The dock provides water and electrical hookups. Sign in for the private berthing area at the equipment rental office.
The Lotts Island Campground has 16 full- hookup sites for recreational vehicles. Eleven of the sites are pull-through. Each site includes 30- and 50-amp service, water, a picnic table, a barbecue grill, a fire pit and sewage.

Skeet and Trap Ranges
Skeet and trap ranges at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield offer open shooting and cater to small groups or units for additional shooting times. Groups need only to call and make a reservation. Skeet and Trap Club members can access the range for extended hours. Cost is $4 per round.

Pass & Permit
The Pass & Permit Office offers the following information, permits and services: hunting, fishing and recreation permits, Georgia hunting and fishing licenses, fishing bait, and rifle, pistol and archery range. You must possess a Hunters Safety Class Certificate to hunt on Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield. Information is available on the www.stewart.army.mil website.

Leisure Activities Center
The Stewart Leisure Activities Center is in Building 419 (PX Furniture Mall complex) and can be reached at 912-767-2841. Hunter Leisure Travel is in Building 1286 and can be reached at 912-315-3674.
Services available include attraction tickets, cruise information and booking, local trips, vacation planning, rental of canopies, a dunking booth, children’s moon walk, chairs, tables and serving dishes. Fee information and ticket pricing can be obtained at www.stewartmwr.com.
Child, Youth & School
Services — Family and MWR
Child, Youth & School Services provides a seamless delivery service for youth 0-18 years of age through a variety of programs and services that promote growth and development. Programs and services include: child liaison, education and outreach services, school liaison services, Child Development Centers, School Age Centers, Youth Services, Family Child Care, youth sports and instructional programs.
Child Development Centers serve children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Programs include full-day, part-day, Georgia prekindergarten and hourly care. There are currently four CDCs serving Stewart and three serving Hunter.
CYSS Parent Central Services is currently in Building 438, Hero Road at Fort Stewart, 912-767-2312. At Hunter, the registration office is in Building 1286, Haley Avenue, 912-315-5425. Family Child Care serves children from 6 weeks to 12 years old and provides full- and part-day care, hourly care, extended hours care and emergency care. FCC homes can be found throughout the installations. Military spouses who live on the installation are trained to care for children in their own quarters. This is an alternative to center-based program care for parents who want a small-group, home-type atmosphere. It also provides an option for the single parent or dual military couples needing extended care during field exercises or deployment.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are served daily and must be in compliance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture nutritional requirements.
Unique to Fort Stewart are two Child Development Centers that house the Georgia pre-K program and before- and after-school care for participants. A lottery is conducted every April for parents to get their children enrolled in slots. All children entering prekindergarten must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 of the school year. Building 403 offers programs for before- and after-school care for on-post kindergarteners.
At Hunter Army Airfield, the Child Development Center at Building 8807 houses both the Georgia pre-K program and before- and after-school care for kindergartners. The hourly care program provides child care for parents who need service on an intermittent basis.
All children must have a complete registration packet, available at the one-stop registration offices, which includes an up-to-date immunization record. All children enrolling in sports programs must have a current physical before they can participate. Children and youth may also register for instructional programs such as dance, piano, taekwondo, gymnastics and more at the Central Registration offices. A school liaison officer is located at each installation. The SLO can be reached at 912-767-6533 at Fort Stewart and 912-315-6586 at Hunter Army Airfield. The SLO is there to assist families and children when transitioning from one school system to another by providing information on local schools, assisting parents with special education needs and issues, and providing transition support.

School Age Centers — Family and MWR
SAC offers a wide variety of activities for grades 1-5. The School Age Center is housed in Building 7160 at Fort Stewart on Austin Road near Brittin Elementary School and in Building 8805 at Hunter Army Airfield on South Perimeter Road. Before- and after-school care, winter, spring and summer camps, and occasional user care are offered at these facilities.
Programming includes 4-H and Boys & Girls Clubs of America clubs and activities. The center has a homework center and computer lab with instructor for youth attending the program. This program also provides for small-charge instructional classes like dance, tutoring, etc.
Middle School/Teen Program
Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield have a free Middle School/Teen Program for youth 12-15 years of age. Older teens (ages 16-18) participate in the Teen Program. The program at Fort Stewart is housed in the Fort Stewart Youth Center, Building 5655, Mindoro Loop. The program at Hunter is in Building 8805. Both facilities offer a state-of-the-art experience with a gymnasium, multipurpose room, homework and computer center, and game rooms. A variety of programs are offered such as teen lock-ins with other installations, Teen Council, Character Counts!, 4-H and Boys & Girls Clubs of America programs. The youth are actively involved in the community through youth center programs and projects such as Habitat for Humanity.

Youth Sports — Family and MWR
Youth Sports programs include basketball, cheerleading, spring soccer, track and field, baseball, T-ball, football and fall soccer. The Fort Stewart Youth Sports Program is conducted with emphasis on safety, participation, fun and good sportsmanship. All teams are coached by volunteer coaches who must be certified under the National Youth Sports Coaches Association before coaching. All participants will be furnished with a basic uniform, evaluated, assigned to a team and guaranteed a specific amount of playing time.
Team sports and fitness and nutrition programs are designed to provide the opportunity to participate, develop fundamental skills and grow in an atmosphere of sportsmanship, citizenship and teamwork. There are fees for team and individual sports. Discounts are offered for volunteer coaches with children participating in any CYSS sport in the same season and same sport. The club system consists of two clubs, Club Stewart at Fort Stewart and Hunter Club at Hunter Army Airfield. Both clubs at both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield are open to all military ranks, civilian grades and the general public, and no club dues are charged. The club system offers professional catering and party planning services at either club. The system also can cater to off-premise locations.
Nestled beneath Spanish moss-draped oak trees, Club Stewart offers palette-pleasing cuisine, a professionally trained culinary team, and premier catering planning and execution services.
Club Stewart is open to the public and with a 600-person capacity facility, boasts the largest ballroom in Liberty and Bryan counties. The club offers a daily delicious buffet and a la carte menu 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, as well as holiday Sunday brunches, quarterly dinner theaters, comedy nights, game nights, annual festivals, weekly social hours and more.

Bingo Program — Family and MWR
Hunter Bingo is co-located at the Hunter Club facility, 135 Duncan Drive. This state-of-the-art facility and program offers its patrons an opportunity to play bingo five nights a week as well as daytime lightning sessions Saturday and Sunday. ?The Hunter Bingo management team and its staff are proud of its high-quality programs, their customer service delivery system, and their first-class bingo entertainment programs and services. Fort Stewart Bingo also is state-of-the-art bingo. The Fort Stewart Bingo program is co-located with Club Stewart, Building 405, and can seat 200 guests. Rocky’s Zone — Family and
MWR Soldier Recreation Center
Rocky’s Warrior Zone, Building 703, is a game and sports Soldier recreation facility that includes a big-screen TV theater with surround sound. “The Zone” also features pool, Wi-Fi and video gaming, all free. Food and beverages are served. Soldiers are welcome to bring a guest, provided the guest is at least 18 years of age.

Corkan Family Recreation
Corkan Family Recreation offers affordable family fun to young or old. It has bowling, roller skating, laser tag, indoor climbing, an indoor play land, miniature golf, a splash park, pavilion rentals, meeting rooms, group outings and picnic opportunities to entice and entertain any member of the family age 0-99.
With its affordable pricing, Corkan Family Recreation is Fort Stewart’s “backyard playground” that is great for day trips, birthday parties, family get-togethers, unit functions, group outings and family fun. Stewart Bowling Center at 439 Lindquist Road offers a fun, family-orientated bowling atmosphere with its 12-lane cosmic bowling facility, party areas, video game room and full-service Corner Grill.
Corkan Family Fun Center houses indoor roller skating, laser tag, extreme 3-D climbing, a concession stand and party areas. There’s something for everyone, including relaxing viewing areas and a video game room. Have a party, or just come and enjoy some fun.
Cypress Sam’s Treehouse is an indoor playland facility with four levels of interactive fun, including ball blasters, volcanoes, slides and a toddler area. Parents and grandparents can relax and enjoy watching children or join in on the bottom level. Cypress Sam’s offers special operating hours for toddlers.
Cypress Creek Adventure Golf is an 18-hole adventure miniature golf course with water and sand traps and an atmosphere to remind you of southern Georgia.
“The Springs” splash park is a multifeature splash park offering tumbling buckets, super soaker, palm trees and other fun features to help you beat the heat. Our shaded viewing areas offer parents and grandparents a relaxing experience. Our clubhouse concessions offer cool treats to beat the heat.
Finally, don’t forget Corkan Plaza, with its pavilions, toddler playground, NEOS interactive play, Play WEB and relaxing sitting areas. This is the best place to sit, read a book, listen to music or listen to water running out of the fountain. It’s a great place to have a conversation while enjoying a brown bag lunch.
Golf — Family and MWR
Two excellent 18-hole golf courses — Taylors Creek Golf Course at Fort Stewart and Hunter Golf Club at Hunter Army Airfield — are available and open seven days a week year-round. A PGA professional manages these facilities and offers lessons and free clinics. Rental golf clubs, golf cars and pull carts are available. Bowling — Family and MWR
Bowling is entertainment for the entire family. Two state-of-the-art facilities offer varied opportunities such as league bowling, open bowling and bumper bowling for little ones.
Marne Bowling Center and Stewart Bowling Center are located at Fort Stewart. A full-service snack bar service is available at both locations. A well-stocked pro shop and drilling service is available at Marne Bowling Center.
Stewart Bowling Center is a family bowling center and operates as part of Corkan Family Recreation Center. Our centers offer birthday party and hail and farewell packages. Tournaments and league bowling are popular activities.

Library — Family and MWR
The Fort Stewart Library, in Building 411 on Lindquist Avenue, has more than 55,000 books and subscribes to 250 magazines and newspapers from across the country.
The library is fully automated and has full access to the Internet and online databases. Many magazines and newspapers are available for research. It also has a copy and fax machine, educational video cassettes and DVDs, audio books, many foreign language tapes and CDs. Computers are available for personal use in the library.
There is a separate children’s room at the library. The library not only has best sellers and popular fiction and nonfiction books, it also has many research tools with a librarian available to provide assistance. If the library doesn’t have what you need, it can be borrowed by using the Interlibrary Loan Service.
The library supports Soldiers going to the field or on maneuvers with boxes of paperbacks. Video messenger service is offered to create a DVD video for families to send to a loved one. Call 912-767-2828 for more information.
Auto Skills — Family and MWR
Both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield have their own auto skills centers. Fort Stewart’s Libby Auto Skills Center is located in Building 1503 and has 24 indoor bays. The Hunter Army Airfield Auto Skills Shop has 14 indoor bay centers, located in Building 1288.
Engine analysis, steam cleaning, welding, tire changing and many other aspects of vehicle repair can be accomplished at either facility. Various classes are scheduled monthly. Both have rotating special classes for novice patrons only.
A trained professional staff is on hand to help patrons learn skills necessary to solve vehicle problems. A tool room is available for patron checkouts with new computer manual systems updated quarterly.
Fort Stewart’s Libby Auto Skills Center also has a paint booth and body shop and state-of-the-art alignment equipment.

Sports Program — Family and MWR
The Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Sports Program is one of the most comprehensive in the southeast region. The program is divided into the following sections: intramural sports, physical fitness and aquatics. The sports offices are located at 78 Lindquist Ave., Fort Stewart, 912-767-8238, and at the Hunter Sports Complex, 1460 Duncan Ave., Hunter Army Airfield, 912-315-4160.
Intramural Sports — Family and MWR
The intramural program consists of the following sports: basketball, volleyball, flag football, softball, track and field, golf, bowling, tennis, soccer and racquetball. League and tournament competition is offered in all sports. Persons wishing to participate can enter the company-level league, 35 and older battalion league, female battalion league or the family member’s league. At the conclusion of each sport, an installation champion is determined by a tournament.
Services at Fort Stewart special events are also an important part of the intramural sports program. The following special events are offered: power lifting tournaments, bodybuilding tournaments, 5K and 10K races, basketball tournaments, softball tournaments, flag football tournaments, volleyball tournaments, free-throw contests and three-on-three basketball tournaments.
Physical Fitness — Family and MWR
Family and MWR has four physical fitness centers at Fort Stewart and one at Hunter. Each is equipped to meet the needs of Soldiers and family members.
Equipment includes modern weight machines, free weights, cardiovascular machines, basketball courts, handball and racquetball courts, saunas, showers, dressing rooms and sporting equipment, which may be checked out with the proper ID.

Aquatics — Family and MWR
The aquatics program includes lap swimming, drown-proofing, remedial PT, water aerobics, water pregnancy aerobics and open swimming. The program has two outdoor and two indoor pools at Fort Stewart and one outdoor pool and one indoor pool at Hunter. The outdoor pools are seasonal pools, opening on Memorial Day and closing on Labor Day. The indoor pools are open year-round.
