The United States Army Medical Department Activity stands ready 24 hours a day to support the National Training Center mission and military families who live here. Comprehensive health and preventive medicine services are provided to active-duty personnel, both assigned and rotational, their Family members, and retirees.

The nature of care provided at Weed Army Community Hospital focuses on primary care, as well as occasional severe trauma. WACH has a total of 53 care providers to include specialists in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Mental Health, and one flight surgeon. A Physical Therapist, a Dietitian, and Optometrist complement the staff of health care providers.

The Clinical Laboratory, Radiology Department, and Pharmacy Service furnish necessary support activities, all of which result in comprehensive primary care.

Patients requiring a higher level of treatment are referred to other military as well as civilian treatment facilities, if necessary.

Military sick call is conducted Monday through Friday, 7 to 8:30 a.m., for units without an assigned Battalion Aid Station. Central appointments is open at 7 a.m. for active-duty service members to schedule a sick call or same-day appointment.

WACH uses a primary care manager system. Soldiers and their Family members at Fort Irwin are assigned a primary health care provider.

All appointments for services provided at Weed Army Community Hospital are scheduled through a centralized Patient Appointment System with the exception of Radiology, Physical Therapy and Department of Behavioral Health.

Patients with a problem that is not an emergency, but cannot wait for a routine appointment are referred to the Triage Nurse unit. The Triage Nurse contacts the patient and schedules a same-day appointment or provides advice for self care.
The Preventative Medicine Service provides Community and Occupational Health Nurse and Environmental and Industrial Health Services to Fort Irwin. PMS coordinates the smoking cessation program, the self-help program, and the food handlers course.

The Department of Behavioral Health Service provides direct Psychology and Social Work services to the community. The Family Advocacy Case Management Team is managed from this office.

Mary E. Walker Center
The Mary E. Walker Center provides a broad range of comprehensive services to our beneficiaries. These services include:
Family Practice: Same-day and routine appointments from infants to all ages; active duty, retirement, and commission nominee physical exams; school and day care physical exams; focused disease-specific educational sessions; minor surgery, and; Exceptional Family Member Program.

Pediatrics: Same-day and routine appointments from infants to adolescents; newborn and infant weight checks; school and day care physical exams; newborn circumcisions, and; Exceptional Family Member Program.

Internal Medicine: Comprehensive adult medical care (same-day and routine appointments); minor surgery; Graded Exercise Treadmill Tests, and; Pulmonary Function Studies.

The Mary E. Walker Clinic is located at Building 170 on Inner Loop Road across from the post helipad. Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The primary mission of U.S. Army Dental Activity is to ensure the dental readiness of our Soldiers remains at or above 95 percent and to provide the best dental care to our eligible beneficiaries. This will be the standing order everyday for every Soldier and every civilian assigned to the Fort Irwin Dental Activity. DENTAC operates Dental Clinic 1 and the Shuttleworth Dental Clinic.
