The Travis Aero Club
Flight Training Center,
located in Building 772 west of David Grant Medical
Center on Hickam Avenue, gets aviation
dreams off the ground with a variety of specialized
training and professional services.
At the Aero Club, students learn the basics of
aerodynamics and principles of flight, radio communication,
navigation and Federal Aviation
Administration flight rules before taking to the air.
Students can also take their FAA tests at the club,
and earn their single and multi-engine rating at
Travis.
The national average for earning the private
pilot certificate is between 50 and 65 hours. Students
need a minimum of 35 flying hours to qualify
for a private pilot’s license. Ground school is
also mandatory but is usually completed in eight
to 10 weeks.
